The second Brigantine–Honeybrook Cup took place over the weekend of Sept. 22-23. This year the Brigantine team traveled to beautiful Chester County to play Honeybrook Golf Club in Honeybrook, Pennsylvania. They carried with them the Brigantine-Honeybrook Cup trophy, which was won last year on the Brigantine Links Golf Course.

The members of Team Brigantine were Lisa Dove, Anita Laielli, Sheila Lange, Patti Larson, Elaine O’Brien, Mollye O’Neill, Josslyn Sharkey and Susan Stinson.

Shelly Campbell, Lori DesRuisseaux, Melissa Fritts, Allison Long, Ellen Morrow, Mary Wren and Sherri Yucha made up Team Honeybrook.

Over the course of the two-day event the teams competed in various formats. The pairings for both days were Allison Long-Sherri Yucha versus Josslyn Sharkey-Patti Larson, Lori DesRuisseaux-Mary Wren versus Lisa Dove-Sheila Lange, Laura Ryan-Ellen Morrow versus Mollye O’Neill-Susan Stinson, and Melissa Fritts-Shelly Campbell versus Elaine O’Brien-Anita Laielli.

On Day 1 the front nine contest was a two-person scramble which each team receiving 25 percent of their combined team handicap.

Points were won as follows: Allison Long-Sherri Yucha, ½ point for Honeybrook; Lori DesRuisseaux-Mary Wren, 1 point for Honeybrook; Laura Ryan-Ellen Morrow, ½ point for Honeybrook; Josslyn Sharkey-Patti Larson, ½ point for Brigantine; Mollye O’Neill-Susan Stinson, ½ point for Brigantine; and Elaine O’Brien-Anita Laielli, 1 point for Brigantine.

The back nine contest was Better Ball. Players received 100 percent of their handicap, with strokes given based on the lowest handicap in each group.

Points were won as follows: Allison Long-Sherri Yucha, 1 point for Honeybrook; Lori DesRuisseaux-Mary Wren, 1 point for Honeybrook; Laura Ryan-Ellen Morrow, 1 point for Honeybrook; and Melissa Fritts-Shelly Campbell, 1 point for Honeybrook.

On Day 2 the front nine contest was a dhamble with players receiving 50 percent of their handicap. Strokes were given based on the lowest handicap in the group.

Points were won as follows: Josslyn Sharkey-Patti Larson, 1 point for Brigantine; Lori DesRuisseaux-Mary Wren, 1 point for Honeybrook, Laura Ryan-Ellen Morrow, 1 point for Honeybrook; and Melissa Fritts-Shelly Campbell, 1 point for Honeybrook.

The back nine contest was select drive alternate shot with teams receiving 50 percent of their combined team handicap.

Points were won as follows: Allison Long-Sherri Yucha, 1 point for Honeybrook, Lori DesRuisseaux-Mary Wren, 1 point for Honeybrook, Laura Ryan-Ellen Morrow, 1 point for Honeybrook; and Elaine O’Brien/Anita Laielli, 1 point for Brigantine.

Honeybrook claimed the cup with a 12-4 score. Although we surrendered the cup we left with many new friends and a great appreciation for Honeybrook and its staff. They truly treated us as their special guests. Our team looks forward to hosting Team Honeybrook in Brigantine next fall as we battle to bring the cup back.
