Crossroads Youth Group
Crossroads Youth Group kicks off another year beginning 7-8 p.m.Sunday, Sept. 25 and meets every Sunday. Crossroads Youth Group is a community youth group sponsored by the Community Presbyterian Church and is open to all sixth through eighth grade youths in Brigantine. They meet weekly and the meeting and/or outings consist of community service, fun and fellowship, spirituality and current issues. It is a positive atmosphere that stresses acceptance and is a true example of how to have fun without the use of drugs or alcohol. We sponsor a Halloween hayride and an Easter egg hunt for the community. Crossroads sponsors the junior high dances that are held once a month. Open registration is extended each Sunday, so if you can’t make it the first week, you can still join.
Christmas Tree Lighting
The Annual Brigantine Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony will be held 5:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2 at the Fire House. This event is sponsored by the City of Brigantine, the Brigantine Chamber of Commerce and the Brigantine PTA. Parents should bring their children to see the arrival of Santa Claus as well as the lighting of the Community tree. Children up to Fourth Grade will be given gifts from Santa. Entertainment will be provided by the Brigantine North School Choir under the direction of Jason Reed and the Bob Ferris Band. Cumberland County Jazz and Wind Ensemble Orchestra
The Brigantine CER is hosting another free concert 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 7 at the Brigantine North School. The Cumberland County Jazz Band and Wind Ensemble are a collaboration between musicians from Cumberland County College and the surrounding communities. They are in their 33 performance season with founding Director Joe Akinskas. Both ensembles are credited courses at the College as well as being offered as a community service to adult musicians from the community. The CCC bands perform approximately twelve times a year, on campus and along the Jersey shore, and have hosted the South Jersey Community Band Festival over the past twelve years. Brigantine Community Presbyterian Church events
The Brigantine Community Presbyterian Church, 1501 W Brigantine Ave., hosts Christmas Pageant on Dec. 11 at the 10:15 a.m. worship and a Christmas Cantata on Dec. 18 at the 10:15 a.m. worship. Christmas Eve worship times are 4 p.m. for a family friendly atmosphere and 8 p.m. for the traditional evening. Christmas morning worship will be at 10 a.m. For information call 609-266-7942.
Storytime with Miss Bonnie
The Brigantine branch of the Atlantic County Library hosts Storytime with Miss Bonnie 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Fridays through Dec. 16. Children age 3½ to 5 hear stories, sing songs, and make quick crafts. Call 609-266-0110 for information.
New Year’s Day plunge
The 16th annual Brigantine Polar Bears New Year’s Day Plunge is set for noon Sunday, Jan. 1 at Laguna Rum Bar and Grill. The event benefits the wounded veterans and their families served by Fisher House. The opening ceremony and color guard begin 11 a.m., followed by the costume parade and judging. The plunge will take place at noon, followed by a post-plunge party and football tailgate party on the beach with live music until 10 p.m. Food and drink will be available for purchase.
Southern Caribbean cruise
The Brigantine Brigantine Community Education & Recreation sponsors a nine day Southern Caribbean Cruise on the Celebrity Summit Feb. 17-27. Travelers will fly from Philadelphia to Fort Lauderdale Feb. 17, stay the night at the Crown Plaza and then board the Celebrity Summit on Feb. 18. The cruise sails to St. Kitts, St. Maarten, St. Thomas, San Juan and Fort Lauderdale. Package includes round-trip deluxe motor coach transportation between Brigantine and the Philadelphia Airport; round-trip air transportation between Philadelphia and Fort Lauderdale; accommodations at the Crown Plaza, Fort Lauderdale; nine nights accommodations on board the Celebrity Summit with all meals and entertainment while on board. Trip to eastern Canada June 3-10
The Brigantine CER sponsors an eight-day, seven-night bus trip to Montreal, Quebec City, Ottawa, Toronto and Niagara Falls, June 3-10. There will be guided tours in each of the cities. Trip to canyon country Oct. 9-17
The Brigantine CER sponsors a trip to the Canyon Country featuring Arizona and Utah Oct. 9-17, 2017. Fly from Philadelphia International to Phoenix/Scottsdale. Cities to be visited include Phoenix, Scottsdale, Sedona Grand Canyon, Lake Powell, Bryce Canyon, Zion National Park and Las Vegas. Weight Watchers meetings
Weight Watcher Meetings are now held every Tuesday morning starting with weigh-in at 9:30 a.m., followed by a meeting at 10 a.m. Come in and learn how to successfully lose weight by following a customized food and activity plan to help you look and feel better and have more energy. Weight Watchers also offers a handy food and activity tracker, thousands of meal ideas and practically every healthy-living tool you can imagine. If you like to paint or have a craft you enjoy, you are invited to join the Art Club at the Community Center 2-5 p.m. every Tuesday in the Art Room. There will be various mediums of art such as watercolor, acrylic, oil and various crafts. Club members are all at different levels. There is no fee to be a part of the club. Thrift shop open
The thrift shop of the Community Presbyterian Church, 1501 W. Brigantine Ave., is open 5-8 p.m. Wednesdays, 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Thursdays and 9 a.m.-noon Saturdays. Shop for bargains on gently used clothing for men, women and children, as well as shoes, small appliances, household items, jewelry and much more. New items are received daily. Treadmilling for walkers
The Running Center is partnering with the Brigantine Fitness Center to present a fitness class for active adults. Treadmilling for Walkers is offered noon Mondays and Wednesdays at the Brigantine Fitness Center. The class is led by Mindy Solkin, owner and head coach of The Running Center, who created the class to give seniors a full-body workout. The one-hour classes are open to members and nonmembers of the fitness center. Registration for one or two days per week is available at therunningcenter.com/checkout/.
