Brigantine Public Schools kindergarten registration will be held 9-11:30 a.m. and 12:30- 2:30 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, March 6 and 7 in the Brigantine Elementary School main office. Kindergarten screenings will be scheduled at the time of registration for June 7 and 8 for all new students.
Children must turn 5 years old on or before Oct. 1 to qualify for kindergarten this fall.
All children entering kindergarten in September must have four DPT and three polio immunizations. The last one must have been administered on or after the child’s 4th birthday.
Additional immunizations include one chicken pox vaccine dose or written documentation of chicken pox disease, and at least one MMR, a second dose of measles vaccine and a complete hepatitis B series before a child can be admitted to school.
The following documents are required for registration: the child’s original birth certificate — state copy, not hospital copy — the child’s immunization records, and proof of residency.
Acceptable proof of residency for homeowners includes a deed or the most recent property tax bill from the city. Acceptable proof of residency for renters can include a lease or a signed letter from a landlord listing all occupants, or other evidence of residency, plus any two of the following: a paystub showing name and address; utility bills – gas, electric or home phone only; voter registration card; and financial account information. All must contain the parent or guardian's name and home address.
Proof of residency for people sharing quarters are an owner’s deed or most recent tax bill from the city; a notarized letter from the owner listing all occupants; and proof of address for the parent (paycheck stub or utility bill). All three documents are needed for a shared quarters.
Other documents parents may want to bring are the address and phone number of their child’s doctor and emergency contact information such as addresses and phone numbers.
Registration will not be considered complete without all the necessary paperwork.

Parents who suspect that their preschool-age child may have special needs can get free help from the district child study team. Brigantine Public School District is organizing a Child Find Campaign to locate and provide services for children age 3 to 5 who may have physical, mental, language or emotional difficulties.
