The third-place Blue Ribbon Business and Non-Profit Award goes to Insurance Agencies Inc./Dr. Linda Sayers, property owner Ned Voit, for the beautiful job he has done with this property. On the side of the building is Reeny's, which won last summer. So this is a beautiful all-around building enjoyed and appreciated by many.

Patrizia Violante, property co-chair for the Blue Ribbon property awards, reported that she and Lorraine Vesceri have made some changes to the program.

Next year there will be more information to business owners regarding the program and more interaction with them to promote their participation. There were a lot of votes cast this year, but we still would like more community involvement.

The Gathering was held Sunday, Sept. 17 at St. George's Pub. This annual event is a way of saying thanks for a beautiful season and for honoring a few good workers.

The President's Cup for 2017 was presented to Donna Cowhey. Donna is the club's own Martha Stewart because she always has great ideas and makes beautiful projects. She made pocketbooks out of recycled plastic bags as well as tin can lawn ornaments to sell at the farmers market.

She gave out property awards and with partners took on the courtyard at the BCC and continues to maintain it. Donna designed and printed all of the certificates for the speakers, garden tour, and Blue Ribbon Awards and was one of the members who weeded and planted the 27th Street Butterfly Garden before it was taken over by another tender.

She set up and handles our email at brigantinegardenclub@aol.com. I could go on and on, but you get the idea. Thank you, Donna, for all that you have done for the Brigantine Garden Club.

The bed tenders are the heart and soul of the Garden Club. So the board decided to give a special award to one north end bed tender and one south end bed tender each year. This was a very hard choice to pick just one because all of our beds are beautiful and all of our tenders work hard.

We hope over the years to give each person this award.

The north end bed tender award went to Julie Watkins, who tends bed No. 74 at the city dock. The south end bed tender award went to Doranne Bigelow, who maintains bed Nos. 157 and 158 on Lagoon Boulevard near Ontario.

Thanks for making Brigantine beautiful. Special thanks to George Moore, who made beautiful wooden signs for the two bed tenders.

Many members took home plants donated by John Cerasani. Thank you, John, for sharing your lovely houseplants with us. Thanks also to Fran Streeper for planning this special luncheon. Matt Cvelich donated three adorable collectors' dolls that were won by Randa Minton, Alice Holl and Jan Sarratore. Thanks, Matt, for these lovely items.

As you know, club members Debi Ples and Linda Mantello do a beautiful job keeping the entrance sign looking beautiful and seasonal. They are wondering if anyone was growing pumpkins this year; perhaps the growers would consider donating a few for the fall presentation. If you have one or more pumpkins to spare, call us at 609-266-3685 or send us an email. Thanks so much.

Sometimes a group of members will get together and do weeding on Harbor Beach Boulevard. Debi Ples wishes to thank Joan Finlay, Lorraine McCarty, Joan Johnson, Linda Mantello and Brigitte Reid for their assistance.

The Cultural Arts Scarecrow contest is starting and anyone interested in dressing our “Garden Daisey” can contact Treasurer Johanne Milnes. Last year we took second place in this fun competition.

At the next meeting on Oct. 2, please bring anything you may have to share as you separate your plants in the fall. Voting will be held at this meeting for the one open board position. Running are Randa Minton and Gina Bergin. Both ladies make excellent candidates. Wish we could take both. This will be our last meeting until March 2018.

Visit us on Facebook. Write to P.O. Box 53, Brigantine, NJ, 08201. Check out our memorial tree on the bottom floor of the library.

Thanks to everyone who has helped to make Brigantine a more beautiful place to live and visit.
