1940 – Chief Bill Kuhn replaced Bob Ockenlander to head the 14-man Brigantine Beach Patrol. Volunteers rode horseback at night to search for German U boats off the shore. Brigantine was blacked out at night.
1988 – Holy Spirit and Egg Harbor Township split their season series. Kim Mogan led Spirit to a 62-54 win with 23 points. Luanne Marrandino (Klemm) had eight points. Beth Kolmetsky Daley scored 14 points for EHT. Kolmetsky’s 25 points sparked EHT to a 60-54 win in the return match. Mogan paced Spirit with 20 points followed by Marrandino’s 15 points.
1991 – Tiffany Miller led the Holy Spirit softball team with a .468 batting average. (She would go on to Rowan, were she made the NCAA All-American team.)
1992 – The Atlantic High crew team included locals Sean Daley, Arnaud Voermans, Mike Hiltner and Robbie Koch. Spirit rowers were Brian Mc Fadden, Bruce Hunt and Brendan Kelly.
1996 – Andrew Hunt (Holy Spirit) was named to the first team Cape Atlantic football All-Stars as a linebacker.
2000 – Evan Gordy and Julianne Daniels won the doubles race at the King’s Head Regatta at King of Prussia. Ed Rehill and Theresa Aaron won the father-daughter race. Sixth-grade teacher Mary Steinacker Smith and Donna Anderson took the women’s master race.
2005 – Sophmore Michael Brooks won third place in the South Jersey coach’s invitational 500-freestyle swim. His Holy Spirit Spartan team had a 12-1 record at the time.
2006 – Holy Spirit’s Larry Di Giovanni was named the Cape Atlantic Girls coach of the year after his team posted a 26-2 record.
2008 – Carly Burbridge, Megan D’Allesandro, Kerry Gallagher, Amber Morrell, Lindsey Cooker, Katie Mc Clure, Julia Guenther and Stephanie Laielli helped the various Holy Spirit crew boats win victories.
2010 – Mike and Matt Staunton won straight sets to lead the Atlantic High tennis team to an opening-day win over Vineland.
Four seconds Left and then …
2010 – Middle Township led Holy Spirit by four points, 37-33, with four seconds remaining. Middle intentionally fouled Spirit’s Sarah Marakos, and Marakos hit both fouls to make it 37-35. Spirit then got the ball because of the intentional foul. Marakos struck again, sinking a 3-pointer at the buzzer and giving Coach Larry Di Giovanni’s Spartans an unimaginable 37-36 win.
2010 – Atlantic High and Holy Spirit were tied 39-39 with four seconds left. Atlantic High had the ball under Spirit’s basket. Atlantic High attempted to throw a long pass to an open man that hit the ceiling. Spirit in-bounded the ball to Asmar Williams, who hit a driving layup to give Spirit a 41-39 win.
2014 – Summer Crilley became the third girl with Brigantine roots to score 1,000 points for Holy Spirit. Others on the Spartan gym wall are Jen Daniels and Kim Mogan. Summer’s brother Brian was 15 points short, scoring 985, which deprived them of being the first brother-sister combo to make the wall. Pat and Brian Pruitt are the only brother combo to reach the wall with 1,000 points.
