CAPE MAY – Cape May Brewing Company announced it has been named the NJBIZ Emerging Business of the Year for 2016.

NJBIZ, New Jersey’s leading business journal, awards the honor to New Jersey companies in business for five years or less, according to a press release. The award is scored by the company’s background and growth, the company’s culture, and management’s communication with employees.

CMBC was honored in a ceremony at The Palace at Somerset Park on Monday, Dec. 5. Co-founder and president Ryan Krill was on hand to accept the award.

The award from NJBIZ is the second Cape May Brewing Company has received this year. They were honored as NJMEP’s Young Manufacturing Company of 2016 in October.

“We’re really very gratified by these awards,” Krill said in the release. “We’ve taken some steps recently to define who we are as a company, and it’s nice to see that work paying off. The awards we’ve won aren’t because we make great beer. They’re because everyone who works here is so completely invested in the end result that we’re able to receive recognition such as this.”

Other New Jersey businesses were honored in small, medium, and large categories. The Bayer Corporation was named the Corporate Citizen of the Year, and Barry H. Ostrowsky of RWJBarnabas Health was named Executive of the Year.

Fellow finalists in the Emerging Business category include Appliqué Technologies International, an asphalt company based in Tinton Falls; BUZZ Registration, a registration management firm in Trenton; and Reflik, a recruiting firm out of Somerset.

“We’re thrilled to be held in such reputable company,” Krill said. “New Jersey’s businesses have been at the forefront of corporate responsibility and sustainable growth; our fellow nominees exemplify this ethic to the fullest.”

Founded in 2011, the company began with Krill, his father Bob, and his college friend Chris Henke brewing one beer in a 1,500-square foot space at the Cape May Airport. Five years later, the company now has nearly 50 employees, over 150 beers, and occupies over 20,000 square feet at the airport.
