Geobin composting containers will be available for purchase at a discounted rate for West Cape May residents.

The West Cape May Environmental Commission will present a free backyard composting workshop 7-9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20 at West Cape May Borough Hall, 732 Broadway, West Cape May.

The workshop will address how to enrich soil, help retain moisture and suppress plant diseases and pests, and how to reduce the need for chemical fertilizers.

Participants will learn how to encourage the production of beneficial bacteria and fungi that break down organic matter to create humus, a rich nutrient-filled material.

The workshop will also cover how people can reduce methane emissions from landfills and lower their own carbon footprint.
