LOWER TOWNSHIP – The Lower Township Rotary Club sponsored a ceremony honoring military veterans Tuesday in conjunction with their annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony. Mayor Mike Beck took advantage of his final tree lighting to crack Christmas jokes, such as “Why don’t Christmas trees sew very well? Because they are always dropping their needles.” Beck did not run for reelection this year after serving two terms as mayor.

The Lower Cape May Regional High School Chorus provided music. The chorus sang the national anthem and “Oh, Holy Night.”

The flag detail was provided by members of the VFW Post 5343 in Villas. Jack Kammer of the Lower Township Rotary Club served as master of ceremonies. Kammer is an Air Force veteran.
