Stores in CMC join the ‘Install Me 3 Weeks Before’ program

CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE -- Reminding expectant parents to get their car seats installed three weeks before their due date is the message of a new program currently underway at K-Mart and Wal-Mart in Cape May County. The program also includes hang tags for display models and stickers for seats being sold. Both list the Rio Grande Fire Station, the second Tuesday of the month, from 4 to 6 p.m., as the place to go in Cape May County for assistance with your car seat installation.
Barbi Harris, RN at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center said, “As healthcare professionals we often encounter a situation where mom and the baby are waiting to be discharged from the hospital and dad is out trying to figure out how to use the car seat. This last minute panic leads to installation mistakes and oversights and is a bundle of anxiety that doesn’t have to happen.”
Teresa Thomas, program manager for the Alliance said, “The goal of the program is to put learning about child safety seats on the ‘to do list’ of all expectant parents.”
She went on to say the Alliance also mailed out flyers with the same message and information to obstetricians in the region asking them to display them in their waiting rooms.
