Linwood Bagels offers them up plain or fully loaded
LINWOOD – A bagel shop may not be one’s first thought when looking for a hot breakfast to get the day started or a plump wrap for lunch, but Linwood Bagels in Cornerstone Commerce Center has all that and more.
By the crack of dawn every day, the bagels are already mixed, hand-rolled, and baking in the oven at the shop and eatery, which opened in August under the ownership of Steve Iliadis of Wildwood. The restaurant is not his first endeavor in the food industry.
“I started at my grandfather’s business back at home in Greece,” he said. The family recipe for those bagels is what he still uses today.
Iliadis said he went to culinary school in Greece before coming to the United States in 1980.
“Bagels came from Israel, but Israelis and Greeks share similar cultures and foods,” he said.
He said that in Greece, the bagels were processed differently, in a way that made them better.
Many bagel shops in this country now have Greek roots, according to Iliadis.
Six years ago he opened Wildwood Bagels, which he operates in addition to the Linwood venture.
“I figured I wanted to expand to Atlantic County, as I had Cape May under control,” he said.
“I give people the chance to come in and have food, and then they can tell me what they think,” he added.
“I’m glad to serve the people,” said Iliadis, who goes back and forth between both locations. “I meet a lot of nice people.”
And he wants to meet more. He said he is looking around to see what other locations in the area might be good for his establishment.
The inviting Linwood eatery seats about 40 and is part deli, part coffee shop.
There are small tables by the deli counter, quieter booths away from the service area, and tables near the door and windows with a view of Mainland Regional High School across the street. Service is geared toward getting orders out quickly even during the lunchtime rush.
Linwood Bagels delivers to all of Linwood and parts of Northfield and Somers Point. It has a full deli selection of Boar’s Head meats and cheeses, as well as salads, wraps, panini, omelets, specialty sandwiches, and even burgers and wings. Bagel spreads include veggie, scallion, lox, olive and pimento, sun-dried tomato and nut raisin.
Catering trays of bagels, pastries, wraps and assorted cheeses
are also available.
