Janice Myers of Egg Harbor and Harriett Reardon Bailey of Ocean View took the Gazette on an August cruise to Halifax, Nova Scotia. They joined the guard at the Citadel which was built in 1749 to defend the port from attack.

Fun times at the Bay of Fundy

Terri and Steve Marshall of Galloway took a trip to Fundy National Park in New Brunswick, Canada with their children Jessica, Stevie and Dillon and friends Bobbie, Brad and CJ Cress of Atlantic City. Here, Terri and Steve hold The Current at the park’s entrance, not far from the bay with the highest tidal surges in the world – up to the height of a four-story building – twice a day.

 

 Bill and Kim Weaver of Corbin City embarked on their first cruise in August. They sailed to Canada with the Gazette aboard the Carnival Victory where they enjoyed stops in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia.

Legends of the falls

Richard, Jeremy and Shaun Sless of Linwood took a cruise on the Maid of the Mist in Niagara Falls, Ontario in May. It was reported that none of the Sless boys attempted to go over the falls in a barrel or similar device.

Grinning and bearing The Current

Scott Warner and his wife, Pat, of Egg Harbor Township,
brothers Mark Warner of West Virginia, Kim Warner of Virginia and sister Lynn Wood of Egg Harbor Township enjoyed a two-week vacation in Vancouver, Canada, and a cruise to Alaska. After touring Victoria and Butchart Gardens, they boarded the Princess cruise ship that took them along the inside passage in Alaska, stopping at three ports to enjoy land tours and view the majesty of the glaciers along Glacier Bay and College Fjords. Highlights included the gardens, whitewater rafting to the Mendenhall Glacier, the rush of spawning salmon in Ketchikan, Mount McKinley, and learning about the history of the Gold Rush as they rode the scenic White Pass train.

Art & Gertrude Wells of Egg Harbor City brought The Current with them on a trip to Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.

Cat Daidone of Egg Harbor Township and her parents, Chuck and Sue Daidone of Ellenton, Fla., enjoyed a cruise to Canada and took The Current with them.

Bruce, Nitty and Nicasia D’Allesandro of Egg Harbor Township visited Niagara Falls in Ontario, Canada, Aug. 28-30, 2006. In addition to this "Maid of the Mist" boat ride, they especially liked seeing the falls at night when they are lit up.

The Walsh's Cruise
Jim and Mary Walsh, of Ocean City, traveled with the Gazette out of New York Harbor on Carnival Cruise Lines’ “The Victory.” Stops included Boston, Portland, Me., St. John, New Brunswick and Halifax, Nova Scotia. They voyage began Sept. 16 and returned Sept. 23 to New York.

Cruising Nova Scotia

The Mercer Family of Galloway Township, pictured here in Nova Scotia, took a New England/Canada cruise that stopped at St. John, New Brunswick and Halifax, Nova Scotia. Alan, Bryan, Lisa and Erin Mercer spent their time relaxing on the ship playing trivia games and bingo and spending time with family. The cruise commemorated the 50th wedding anniversary of Lisa's parents.

Summer at the falls

Kristi and Bobby Spicer of Absecon went to Niagara Falls, Canada, for their summer vacation in July. They are sitting in front of Horseshoe Falls on the Canada side in this picture.  While on the trip, they saw the filming of “Camille,” a movie that is scheduled for release in February.

Gene and Katie Collins and their grandson Tyler Krumaker, all of Linwood, visited Canada in July.  The three were visiting Gene and Katie's daughter Tonya, son-in-law Bob, and granddaughters Sam and Emma who were living in Quebec while Bob worked on a special assignment for his company.

Getting close to the falls

Brittany Taglienti, Jheri Grossman, Liz Godorov (granddaughter of Louis and Karen Fortucci of Longport) and Jordan Schnoll took a copy of The Current with them onboard the Maiden of the Mist in Niagara Falls, Canada in August.  They were in Canada Aug. 14-17 on a trip organized through the JCC Camps in Medford.

Anne Vinci (left) and Mary Ellen Shields with their copy of The Wildwood Leader that they took to Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada last week. The ladies reported that they took an elevator ride through solid rock that carried them down to the “Journey Behind the Falls.” This is located at Table Rock Complex where they walked through tunnels to an observation platform where they got a great look at the waterfall as it plummeted in front of them, using the Leader for cover!

Where Canada began
The Boyle family of Egg Harbor Township stands with The Current at the wharf in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada. Colleen Boyle attended Vet Camp, a program for future veterinarians held at the Atlantic Veterinary College at the University of Prince Edward Island.  Prince Edward Island is known as the birthplace of the confederation of Canada, the setting for the "Anne of Green Gables" book series, and the home its author, Lucy Maud Montgomery.
