Semester in Hong Kong
Lea Marino, a Syracuse University student and
2004 graduate of Egg Harbor Township High School, is studying in
Hong Kong this semester. Visiting Hong Kong's Sik Sik Yuen Wong Tai
Sin Temple with her are her father, Tony Marino of Egg Harbor
Township, and her brother, Alex Marino of Linwood.

Wayne and Sue Dilks of Town Bank were recently in China climbing the
Great Wall. “It was a steep climb both up and down but we had lots
of company," they wrote. See future editions of scenes of Shanghai
and Thailand.

A peek from the peak

Kong’s Victoria Harbour.

Checking out China
Raymond and Marian
Parrington of Absecon traveled to China where they toured Beijing,
the Yangtze River and Hong Kong. They also made a stop at the city
of Xi'an, where archeologists recently uncovered an emperor's tomb
guarded by thousands of life-sized terra cotta soldiers. |
 Robert F. Holden,
retired teacher from Ocean City Intermediate School, stands with the
Gazette near the entrance of the campus of Shanghai University where
he and one other U.S. teacher and 15 teachers from British Columbia
were on a peace and reconciliation study tour (sponsored by B.C.
Alpha, the Association of Learning and Preserving the History of
World War II in Asia) to learn about the Japanese atrocities
committed against the Chinese during the Asian-Pacific War 1931-45
to five cities in China from July 25 through Aug. 1. Holden and his
study partner, Doug Cervi, of Oakcrest High School, will be
developing a curriculum guide for this chapter of history to be
published by the New Jersey Holocaust Commission this winter. The
guide will be available to all high school history teachers in the
state. |

World traveler
This is Bill Greis of
Egg Harbor Township on his first world trip. He is holding

China.

Dr. and Mrs.
Vincent Marchesani of Avalon and Bonita Springs, Fla. visited China
in September and took along the Gazette. They are shown visiting the
Tiananmen Square in Beijing, China. They saw many beautiful sites
including the Great Wall of China. |
