Repkos go on a road trip
Jay and Pam Repko of Mays Landing and their three sons,
Noah, Jesse and Bo, drove from New Jersey all the way to
Orlando, Fla., and back during an eight-day vacation to Walt
Disney World. They took The Current the whole way, taking
pictures as they went. They also visited Gatorland in
Orlando.
Wonder who was fighting crime in Sea Isle City while Hanz
and Franz were vacationing in Disney World on Halloween with
the Gazette?

Singing the praises of Disney's Night of Joy
Clay and Barb Simpson and Todd and Barb Maples of Egg Harbor
Township traveled to Walt Disney World for the 25th
anniversary of Night of Joy, which featured more than 25 top
Christian artists who entertained a crowd of 22,000. The
Simpsons and Maples attend Shore Fellowship Church in Egg
Harbor Township.
Mickey Mouse Club meets
The Hughes and DiSanti families visited Walt Disney World
and Hollywood Studios in May. The children were excited to
be there for the first time and meet all of their favorite
characters. Jack, Delaney and Emily Hughes and Gianna and
Carmela DiSanti also celebrated Carmela’s second birthday on
the trip.

Frank and Janice Scornaienchi and George and Catherine
Sanderlin of the Fairways in the Mays Landing section of
Hamilton Township enjoy a much needed vacation relaxing on
the beaches of Fort Lauderdale, Miami and South Beach, Fla.

Ann & Bob Schiavone-Schultz stopped by the "No Name Pub," on
their way back down to Key West, The No Name is famous for
the walls and ceilings being covered in signed dollar bills.
Rumor has it, there's a million one's inside. A great little

Strathmere. During an October trip to Orlando, the brothers
had fun at Aquatica Water Park and Disney’s Not-So Scary
Halloween Party. They also supported and cheered for the
Phillies competing in World Series game week. The Furey
family met many other Phillies fans, while wearing their
favorite baseball team’s shirts to the theme parks.

Gettin' Goofy in Disney World!
The Current was in Disney World with the Watson family of
Linwood to celebrate Kylee Watson's sixth birthday. The
family, along with Grandma Cheri Watson of Somers Point,
enjoyed a magical stay at Disney's Boardwalk Villas. This
picture was taken by Grandma Cheri at the Beach Club where
the family enjoyed a character breakfast on their last day.

Floating weightless in space with The Current
The Bauman Family of Mays Landing traveled to Florida with
The Current Feb. 2-9. They stayed at the Loews Royal Pacific
Resort at Universal Studios and visited Universal Studios,
Islands of Adventure and Sea World. On Feb. 7 they witnessed
the liftoff of the space shuttle Atlantis STS-122 at Kennedy
Space Center. Floating seemingly weightless in space with
The Current at Kennedy Space Center are, top, Barbara and Ed

6, and Brittany, 12.
Making Disney magic
The Giunta family of Somers Point, the Meyers family of
Somers Point, Mom Mom Meyers of Somers Point and Mom Smith
of Northfield enjoyed a magical vacation in Disney World
recently.
Shell seekers hit southernmost point
Michael, Gwen and Katrina Schindler of Northfield took a
10-day getaway to Sanibel Island and Captiva Island for some
shelling, fishing and fun. On Friday, April 13 along with
friends Zoey McGee and Anthony LaMaina, they boarded the Key
West Express out of Fort Myers Beach for a 3˝-hour
high-speed catamaran ride to beautiful Key West. While there
they enjoyed lunch at Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville, key
lime pie at the Blond Giraffe, and visiting the southernmost
point of the United States.
The James family brought the Gazette to Disney World as they
celebrated Lexi James’ (center) first birthday. Celebrating
Lexi’s birthday with her are her brothers Connor (left),
Tanner and Tyler. The James gang also went trick or treating
at Mickey’s Not So Scary Party and they dressed as football
players and a cheerleader.
Epcot’s tops for Galloway girls
Madison and Sydney Ketschek of Galloway Township took The
Current along on vacation to Walt Disney World in Florida
the first week of May. The girls, along with mom and dad,
spent a wonderful busy week enjoying lots of sunshine and
all four of the Disney theme parks. One of the girls’
favorite places was Epcot, where they enjoyed Spaceship
Earth, seen in the background.

A
fairy tale vacation
This group enjoyed spring break in Walt Disney World so much
that a May trip is in the works. In front of Cinderella’s
castle are Linda Peterson of Mays Landing, Zachary, Paul and
Jennifer Johnson of Egg Harbor Township, in the middle is
Zachary's best friend Billy Baldi, also from Egg Harbor
Township, and front and center, the youngest of the Johnson
clan, Kylee.

Solid
gold birthday
Angela Paparo of Margate, in front, and Samantha Wolf of
Ventnor celebrated Angela's birthday in January in Fort
Lauderdale. They were joined by family and friends as well
as Rockin' Ronnie, Ocean Manor's famous Solid Gold Dancer,
known to many of his fans as "Vito."
Brenda
Swierzy and fiancé Rick Fischer on the Tower of Terror
during a fall 2007 trip to Disney World. The photo was taken
on the ride as the doors open for a 13-story free fall.
Ironically, the employee who printed the picture grew up in
Cape May County.
As
invited participants to Disney's Magical Music Days
Celebration, the dance teams of Dancers Two Dance Center
performed on the stage of the magnificent Palace Theatre in
Tomorrowland in Disney World's Magic Kingdom on Tuesday,
July 1. This special program was the highlight of the
biennial trip to Disney for team members and their families.
A large audience viewed this thrilling event providing our
students with a joyful and memorable experience. Parents and
instructors were proud. On Monday, June 30, the students
participated in a dance technique workshop instructed by
Disney World's professional dancers.
During their stay at the Port Orleans Riverside Resort the
team families visited many exciting attractions of the theme
parks. All 150 dancers and family members had a magical time
at Disney World. The whole group is shown with The Middle
Township Gazette.

Dinner
at the luau
Melissa Silverman of Egg Harbor City, left, and Jackie
Hanusey of Galloway Township, a reporter for The Current
Newspapers, got acquainted with the folklore of the Pacific
Islands during Sea World’s Makahiki Luau dinner show Sunday,
April 6. The friends traveled to Orlando, Fla. April 5-12,
where they visited Mickey Mouse at Walt Disney World,
strolled the decks of the Titanic at the Orlando Science
Center and experienced the movies at Universal Studios.
Brian
and Christopher Furey of Strathmere are shown enjoying
Aquatica Water Park. The park is owned by Seaworld in
Orlando and recently opened in March. The boys enjoyed the
wave pool, the rapids and the slides through dolphin
aquariums.

up camp on the beach
The Green family of Absecon took a two-week Easter camping
vacation in Florida. The first week, they camped on the
beach at Knights Key Camping Resort in Marathon Key, Fla.
Their camper was right next to Freddy IV and Marissa, both
4. The spent the following week and Easter camping with the
family in Naples.

travelers
Madison and Rylee McElwee of Mays Landing recently went on
vacation with their parents, Theresa and Ken, to visit
Mickey and Minnie in Florida. Both girls enjoyed their first
airplane ride on Spirit, which flew right over top of their

for Nanci Wittland's 60th birthday. The trip was a dream

Steve Pappas of Egg Harbor Township took a break from his
landscaping business and headed to Miami, Fla. for the
winter. Along with going to the beach and working out, one
of his favorite activities is going into the Everglades and
wrestling alligators. Here, he checks an 8-foot gator for

Colin
and Maura Twiggs of Ocean City traveled to the most remote
National Park in the United States with the Gazette during
their trip to the Dry Tortugas 60 miles from the Florida
Keys. They are pictured with their cousins Baily and Devon.
Nancy Cristella, of Ocean City, while spending the winter in
Palm Beach Gardens , Fla. with the Gazette, won this
22-pound chocolate Easter bunny from the Kilwins ice
cream/candy store. She guessed the amount of jelly beans in
the jar to be 783 and that was the exact amount.
A trip even the family dog loved
Bill and Linda Gussie of Linwood recently visited Linwood
residents Kandy and Steve Ottenberg at their winter home in
Rotunda, Fla. Otts, their dog, is standing by their pool
enjoying the sunny weather, too.

Vacation fit for a princess
Little princess Sahmaya Pitts of Mays Landing recently took
her first airplane ride and traveled to Orlando, Fla., for a
vacation, where she enjoyed Sea World and Walt Disney World.
The highlight of her trip was breakfast at Cinderella's
Royal Table, held inside the famous castle with an array of
princesses attending, including Sahmaya's all-time favorite,
Cinderella. Sahmaya vacationed with her mother, Dana;
Mom-Mom, Tammy; Aunt Debbie and Uncle Jim; and, of course,
The Current.
Cousins Jacob Perez, Macie Hawthorne and Michael Hawthorne
of Wildwood Crest, took The Wildwood Leader with them on
spring break to Sea World in Orlando, Fla.

Holding down the fort
The Holcombe family of Galloway Township recently took a
two-week vacation to Florida. Among their many stops was
Fort De Soto Park in Tampa Bay. Pictured are Bailey and
Tanner among the armory. The building of the fort started in
1898 at the beginning of the Spanish American War. By the
time the fort was completed, the war was over – before a
shot had ever been fired. The fort was never involved in any
major battles.

Brendlinger of Upper Township took the Gazette to Disney
World to celebrate Meg’s birthday.
Sailing through Alligator Alley
The Current survived Alligator Alley in the Florida
Everglades in February as Ron and Judie Boxman of Mays
Landing braved the waters for an airboat adventure and
alligator wrestling show. Along with their grandson Ethan
Levine of Linwood, they made it out alive!
Solid gold birthday

Paul and Pat Counsellor of Ocean City spent the month of

West. They traveled with their two Persian cats, Jasmine and

filled week in Walt Disney World in early February with the
Gazette. Also on the trip were their parents Frank and

Wildwood Crest resident Brian Patrick Joseph Cunniff, 11
months, took The Wildwood Leader with him during his
first-ever visit to Bright House Field in Clearwater, Fla.,
to see the Phillies battle the Detroit Tigers in a recent
spring training game. Brian was visiting his grandparents,
Brian and Jeanne Cunniff, of Cape May and St. Petersburg,
Fla., during his trip.
Joe Stockridge, Victoria Lederer and Cathryn Lederer
celebrating Victoria’s All-American awards at the
HydrA-tions Café on the campus of Miami University of Ohio,
site of the 2008 NCAA Division III National Swimming
Championship. Victoria is a member of the Kenyon College
ladies swim team, 2008 National Champions.

The Gazette traveled to Florida, where the Greate Bay
Swingers Golf Group held their annual east coast/west coast
golf tournament on Thursday, Feb. 21 at the Hammock Creek
Country Club in Palm City, Fla. The tournament was chaired
by local residents: Nick Kihm, George Yocum, Jules Rosenfeld
and Connie Miller. Ruth Miller of Ocean City is holding the
Gazette.
Bill and Marge Kearns (Wildwood) and Bett and Pat Chestnut
(North Wildwood) celebrated St. Patrick’s Day in Clearwater,
Fla., with the Phillies and The Wildwood Leader.
Past commodore, Matt and Jeanne Vollmer entertained other
“snowbirds” from the Ocean City Yacht Club and the Gazette
at their home in Jupiter, Fla. in February. Among those
attending were other past commodores and their wives,
including current commodore, Larry and wife, Paula, LaMaina.

Harbor Township became certified scuba divers July 26 at
Ocean Divers in Key Largo, Fla. They brought The Current
along for an underwater photo.
During his two-week travels around northern Florida, Maurice
Hight of Erma took time to take in the spring training camp
of the New York Yankees at Legends Field in Tampa. He is

signed by Joe Giradi, the new manager of the Yankees.
On their February trip to Disney World, Todd and Summerlee
Reimet of Ocean City checked Mickey’s mailbox and found the

The Osmundsen, String and James families traveled to Disney World in
Orlando last week. The gang all dressed as football players and
attended Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party held at the Magic
Kingdom. Before a night of trick or treating all six boys had dinner
with Mickey and friends at Chef Mickey’s located in the Contemporary

Callahan of Mays Landing took The Current to
Universal Studios in Florida while vacationing in
March with their dad, mom and brother-to-be. Mom-Mom
and Pop-Pop went with them to Disney World, Animal
Kingdom and Universal Studios. They also visited
Grandmom and Grandpop in the Florida Keys. They
can't wait to go back with their new brother,
Carter.
Rose and Carl Miller and Hugh and Dottie Connery, all of
Sea Isle City, took the Gazette to Ernest Hemingway’s house in Key
West, Fla. in March. They also visited the Little White House,
Mallory Square and the Everglades.
Batting a thousand in Tampa

Township spent the first week of March with their favorite baseball
team, the New York Yankees, in Tampa, Fla. Pictured are Tommy,

Bill and Tricia
Leeds of Northfield vacationed in Florida in August with their
children, Kate and Cole, bringing The Current along. They visited
the children's aunt and uncle, Deana and Steve Heritage, who are
formerly from this area and now reside in Yulee, Fla. They are
pictured on nearby Amelia Island. Their travels included
participating in a dig and counting the hatched eggs of a turtle's
nest on the beach (more than 100), a session at Marineland in St.
Augustine, where they were able to feed and play with dolphins, and
a day trip to beautiful Savannah, Ga., where they stopped for dinner
at Uncle Bubba's restaurant, which is owned by Paula Dean of the
Food Channel. It was a fun-filled trip with family.

Sterling- The Gazette was taken onboard the schooner “Lady Sterling”
on a sunset cruise in the Caribbean of Naples, Fla. The cruise was
one of the many highlights enjoyed by, from left, Frank Leone, Donna
Leone, Marge McGarvey and Ed McGarvey, of Ocean City, during their
two-week early fall Marco Island getaway. The “Lady Sterling” was
built solely for daily sails, charters, training and educational
sails. She is the only schooner plying the Caribbean waters in the
Naples area.

Group 4 South Jersey state football champion team, the Absegami
Braves.

Bob and Dene Ponzetti of Mays Landing, along

Tropical Storm Ernesto passed through that night, the sun was out
the next day for more fun visits with Mickey and friends.

Lauderdale
Kim Camp and
her boys, B.J. Perna, 17, and Larry Perna, 14, of the Laureldale
section of Mays Landing, took a seven-day trip to Fort Lauderdale,
Fla., during the major cold spell here the second week of February.
High temperatures there were between 80 and 85 degrees. They said
the locals who took the picture loved the way The Current prints
travel photos from its readers in New Jersey.

visit his Nanny and Pop for three weeks in beautiful Marco Island,

getaway
Michael, Joy,
Jake and Max Lewkowski of Northfield traveled to Universal Orlando
Resort in Florida over the President's Day weekend. They flew
through the winter storm that overtook our area on Feb. 14, only to
find Orlando's temperatures to be 32-40 degrees in the evening and
60 degrees and sunny during the day, but said it was still nice to
get away.

during a long weekend with her family in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., at

their stay for

Mae’s 50th birthday with a dolphin swim and excursions to

Band trumpets its
favorite paper at Walt Disney World
Some 111 members of the
Absegami High School Marching Band and the school choir
traveled to Orlando April 19 along with a copy of The
Current. The band performed at the Disney-MGM Studios theme
park and the choir at the Saratoga Springs Resort Theater.
The all got together for a day of fun at the Magic Kingdom.
Finding The Current among the performers might require a
little reader magic – but it’s really there.
A great catch
Two big fish and one
Current were the catch of the day for Aaron, Nathan and
Jonah Zimmermann of the South Egg Harbor section of Galloway
Township. On vacation in Key Largo, Fla., April 4, they
rented a boat at John Pennecamp State Park and snorkeled
various reefs, then headed six miles out to the
sapphire-blue waters of the Atlantic. They trolled in 200
feet of water with ballyhoo, and the boys caught dolphin
fish and a barracuda.

Stephanie Lynne Camp
The memory of Stephanie
Lynne Camp, who died Sept. 18, 2003 at the age of 20, was
honored with the third annual gathering of family and
friends at Fort Wilderness Resort at Walt Disney World in
Orlando, Fla. It was one of her favorite places. Carol
Dutcher of Somers Point is holding a copy of The Current.
Four generations on Longboat Key

western coast of Florida between Tampa Bay and Sarasota Bay.
Whitty loved the vacation, especially spending time with her
great-granddaughter, who turned 8 months old during the
trip.

Oakcrest High School

The Palmers visited Clearwater, Fla. during spring training
for the Philadelphia Phillies. They were down in Florida Feb. 25
through March 5. They enjoyed some great weather and wonderful
opportunities for their son to get some autographs of his favorite
baseball team. Son Stephen is a huge Phillies fan. He can tell you
all kinds of statistics and now has some knowledge of what type of
cars the players drive. The family got some great memorabilia for
his bedroom, which they are decorating with the Phillies theme. This
picture is Stephen with his dad, Brett, in front of Brighthouse
Field, the Phillies spring training stadium.
Catching Phillies optimism
Jackie and Joe Carolan of Hamilton Township
traveled to Clearwater, Fla., for Phillies spring training.
After an exciting 4-3 victory played at Disney's Wide World of
Sports Complex, the Middle Township High School baseball team and
their coaches get ready to enjoy the rest of the day at Disney
World. Their eight-day trip was filled with baseball, trips to all
the parks, and reading Brian Cunniff's articles in the sports
section of The Leader. (The new edition of the Gazette of Middle
Township wasn't out the day they left.)

Michele and
Kevin Scanlon of Northfield visited Walt Disney World in Florida
with their daughter, Emma, who celebrated her second birthday in
Orlando, and her brother, Louis, 4. Emma and Louis are pictured here

Getting some
rest and relaxation in November are Vietnam veteran Rich Kearney, a
senior vice commander of VFW Post 6650 in Ocean City, and friend
Jackie Ernst of Pleasantville. They traveled to the west coast of
Florida, visiting friends and VFW posts in the area. This picture
was taken in South Passadena, Fla., where they stayed with friends
Bill and Marlene.
These lucky friends from Ocean City
enjoyed a fun vacation with the Gazette in Orlando in November. They
stayed at the Hard Rock Hotel and rode the attractions at Universal

Fountain of Youth
Joseph P. Burke of North Cape
May wrote “On my visit to my daughter Kelly and grandchildren
Amanda and Alex in Tampa, Fla., in October, we also visited and
enjoyed all the attractions at St. Augustine. My grandchildren
and I found the ‘fountain of youth.’ Originally discovered in
1513 by Ponce de Leon. That is him guarding the entrance with my
grandchildren and me in the background.”
Addison Grace Jacobs, 3, of Upper Township, sits
atop her dad's shoulders (Matthew Jacobs OCHS 1994) along
with her mom, Angie Jacobs, and grandparents, John and Gay
Jacobs, at Walt Disney World, Magic Kingdom on Wednesday,
April 25. This was Addison's first trip to the Princess
Castle and she took a copy of the Gazette along for the
ride.
The Gazette traveled with the Fusco-Rohrer
family to Walt Disney World over Easter break. The Gazette
is pictured in front of Expedition Everest in Disney's
Animal Kingdom with Kirk, Antoinette, Kirk and Kristi Rohrer
and Lisa Fusco. The Gazette rode the roller coaster quite a
few times as well.

Polly and Sparky Buckley of Ventnor visit the Southernmost
Point in Key West while vacationing in the Florida Keys.
Judy Cullen, of Ocean City, arrived at the Fort Meyers, Fla.
airport with the Gazette in hand. She traveled with her
family and friends to attend the graduation of her daughter,
Holly Diulio, from Edison College. Holly has accepted a
position as radiologic technologist at the Cape Coral
Hospital in Cape Coral, Fla.
Coolin’ it by the pool
Joe and Terri Totoro of Northfield enjoyed a weekend
poolside at Disney's Beach Club Resort in Orlando, Fla.,
April 27 to May 1.They were in town for a wedding of a
co-worker's daughter. Also pictured in the photo is their
daughter, Alisa.
Art school grad
Mia Campo of Northfield traveled with her son Todd and
The Current to Sarasota, Fla., to see her daughter Jessie
graduate from the prestigious Ringling School of Art and
Design with a bachelor of fine art degree with a focus in
sculpture.

The land of pirates and princesses
John, Shannon, Jack and Maggie Cella of Absecon made the
trip to Walt Disney World, Florida in March. They are seen

Sophia and Cecilia Grillo of North Cape May recently
visited Key West with their mother Heather, and brought the
Gazette along. They visited Mallory Square, the Dry Totugas/Fort
Jefferson Park, and the southernmost point sign. Sophia is
in first grade at Our Lady, Star of the Sea in Cape May,
where her sister is in kindergarten.
They’re all ears
Lisa and Scott Kaelble and their two children and Scott’s
mother, Pamela Kaelble, all of Egg Harbor Township, went to
Walt Disney World last September. The children are Brooke,
now 4, and Mackenzie, now 2.
Angie Wyers and Pat Wallace recently went to Disney World
in Orlando, Fla. for their honeymoon in June and took the
Gazette. After they came back, they moved to Maryland where
Pat works for the public health service and Angie will begin
teaching music at Chesapeake Bay Middle School.

It was hot, it was crowded, and it was sure a whole lot
of fun when three local families got together at Walt Disney
World July 5-11 for their own Magical Gathering. Pictured

Brighthouse Networks Field. Greco notes that his
father-in-law is a faithful reader. “My father-in-law reads
The Current (Absecon/Galloway edition) from front to back
every week.” The Current staff is grateful for the kind
words; now if only the Phillies’ performance could be just
as encouraging.
Trent
and Cole Markley from Seaville went to Clearwater for
Phillies spring training and took the Gazette with them on
St. Patty's Day to watch the Phillies beat up on the
Yankees.
