Feeling like kids again

The Osmundsen, String and James families traveled to Disney World in Orlando last week. The gang all dressed as football players and attended Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party held at the Magic Kingdom. Before a night of trick or treating all six boys had dinner with Mickey and friends at Chef Mickey’s located in the Contemporary Motel. Callahans enjoy Florida fun

Billy and Connor Callahan of Mays Landing took The Current to Universal Studios in Florida while vacationing in March with their dad, mom and brother-to-be. Mom-Mom and Pop-Pop went with them to Disney World, Animal Kingdom and Universal Studios. They also visited Grandmom and Grandpop in the Florida Keys. They can't wait to go back with their new brother, Carter.

 

Rose and Carl Miller and Hugh and Dottie Connery, all of Sea Isle City, took the Gazette to Ernest Hemingway’s house in Key West, Fla. in March. They also visited the Little White House, Mallory Square and the Everglades.

Batting a thousand in Tampa

Members of the Kasunich family of Galloway Township spent the first week of March with their favorite baseball team, the New York Yankees, in Tampa, Fla. Pictured are Tommy, Tiffany and Eric on March 5, when the Yankees won the game in the bottom of the ninth inning with a walk-off home run. 

 Cutie pies in Florida

Bill and Tricia Leeds of Northfield vacationed in Florida in August with their children, Kate and Cole, bringing The Current along. They visited the children's aunt and uncle, Deana and Steve Heritage, who are formerly from this area and now reside in Yulee, Fla. They are pictured on nearby Amelia Island. Their travels included participating in a dig and counting the hatched eggs of a turtle's nest on the beach (more than 100), a session at Marineland in St. Augustine, where they were able to feed and play with dolphins, and a day trip to beautiful Savannah, Ga., where they stopped for dinner at Uncle Bubba's restaurant, which is owned by Paula Dean of the Food Channel. It was a fun-filled trip with family.

Gregory Hagel Sr. of Hamilton Township celebrated his 101st birthday at home with The Current. He had just returned from Florida, but apparently forgot to take along his favorite weekly newspaper.

The last day of the Middle Township High School Baseball team's eight day trip to Florida was spent enjoying the warm sun at Disney's Typhoon Lagoon Water Park.

Megan Koshney is shown with her baton at the Rosen Center Hotel in Orlando, Fla., on New Year’s Day. She was a Capital One all-American performer and took part in the halftime show that aired on ABC. She traveled to Florida with her mother, Carol Koshney.

 Amy Phillips of Seaville took the Gazette to Disney World in December with her mom and dad. Expedition Everest in Animal Kingdom was her favorite ride.

Christmas on the beach

Going back a few

Ed and Marie Eldred of Egg Harbor Township are pictured in front of the historic Henry B. Plant Museum (circa 1891), around which the University of Tampa campus was built. Ed graduated from the university in 1971. He just paid a return visit with his wife and his sons, Phil and “Sandy” Eldred.

Making a splash at the Biltmore

Jon and Pat Bitzer of Egg Harbor Township made sure to bring The Current with them to the Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables, Fla., when they attended the wedding of their good friends Cathy Whitney and Ed Hanson, who live in Fort Lauderdale. Here, both couples enjoy themselves at the hotel pool.

 

Lady Sterling- The Gazette was taken onboard the schooner “Lady Sterling” on a sunset cruise in the Caribbean of Naples, Fla. The cruise was one of the many highlights enjoyed by, from left, Frank Leone, Donna Leone, Marge McGarvey and Ed McGarvey, of Ocean City, during their two-week early fall Marco Island getaway. The “Lady Sterling” was built solely for daily sails, charters, training and educational sails. She is the only schooner plying the Caribbean waters in the Naples area.

Joseph P. Burke of North Cape May wrote “On my visit to my daughter Kelly and grandchildren Amanda and Alex in Tampa, Fla., in October, we also visited and enjoyed all the attractions at St. Augustine. My grandchildren and I found the ‘fountain of youth.’ Originally discovered in 1513 by Ponce de Leon. That is him guarding the entrance with my grandchildren and me in the background.”

Princess Castle

This was Addison's first trip to the Princess Castle and she took a copy of the Gazette along for the ride. The Gazette traveled with the Fusco-Rohrer family to Walt Disney World over Easter break. The Gazette rode the roller coaster quite a few times as well.

Four generations on Longboat Key

Pictured, from left, are Katherine Whitty, a resident of Margate since 1972, her granddaughter Jennifer W. Kovatch, her great-granddaughter and namesake Shelby Katherine Kovatch, both of Chapel Hill, N.C., and her daughter Kathleen Whelan of Cape May Point. For a week in April, these four generations came together at Whelan's vacation home in Longboat Key, a barrier island situated off of the western coast of Florida between Tampa Bay and Sarasota Bay. Whitty loved the vacation, especially spending time with her great-granddaughter, who turned 8 months old during the trip.

The Palmers visited Clearwater, Fla. during spring training for the Philadelphia Phillies. They were down in Florida Feb. 25 through March 5. They enjoyed some great weather and wonderful opportunities for their son to get some autographs of his favorite baseball team. Son Stephen is a huge Phillies fan. He can tell you all kinds of statistics and now has some knowledge of what type of cars the players drive. The family got some great memorabilia for his bedroom, which they are decorating with the Phillies theme. Catching Phillies optimism

Jackie and Joe Carolan of Hamilton Township traveled to Clearwater, Fla., for Phillies spring training.


After an exciting 4-3 victory played at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex, the Middle Township High School baseball team and their coaches get ready to enjoy the rest of the day at Disney World. Their eight-day trip was filled with baseball, trips to all the parks, and reading Brian Cunniff's articles in the sports section of The Leader. Ross turns 10

Lana Dallman, 2, of Egg Harbor Township, visited Saratoga Springs, a Disney World resort and spa March 13 with her dada, Brian Dallman, 41. They were there along with his wife, Jill, celebrating the birthday of his son, Ross Dallman, who was turning 10.

Vic and Anna Mae Werner, and Bob and Anna Berthold, all of Galloway Township, recently visited Discovery Cove in Orlando, Fla., where they celebrated Anna Mae’s 50th birthday with a dolphin swim and excursions to Sea World and Epcot.

Band trumpets its favorite paper at Walt Disney World

Some 111 members of the Absegami High School Marching Band and the school choir traveled to Orlando April 19 along with a copy of The Current. The band performed at the Disney-MGM Studios theme park and the choir at the Saratoga Springs Resort Theater. The all got together for a day of fun at the Magic Kingdom. Finding The Current among the performers might require a little reader magic – but it’s really there.

A great catch

Two big fish and one Current were the catch of the day for Aaron, Nathan and Jonah Zimmermann of the South Egg Harbor section of Galloway Township. On vacation in Key Largo, Fla., April 4, they rented a boat at John Pennecamp State Park and snorkeled various reefs, then headed six miles out to the sapphire-blue waters of the Atlantic. They trolled in 200 feet of water with ballyhoo, and the boys caught dolphin fish and a barracuda. 

In loving memory of Stephanie Lynne Camp

The memory of Stephanie Lynne Camp, who died Sept. 18, 2003 at the age of 20, was honored with the third annual gathering of family and friends at Fort Wilderness Resort at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fla. It was one of her favorite places. Carol Dutcher of Somers Point is holding a copy of The Current.

The Skroski family visited good ole Walt Disney World and Universal in October. Nanci, Grandma Em, Emily, Erica, Eric and Gary enjoyed an afternoon at the Animal Kingdom.  Son Matt could not make the trip because he was busy with the soon-to-be Group 4 South Jersey state football champion team, the Absegami Braves.

Boardwalk stroll

Bob and Dene Ponzetti of Mays Landing, along with son Jake, 5, and “Joe Dude,” 1, took a stroll on Disney’s Boardwalk during a Disney World vacation in August. Although Tropical Storm Ernesto passed through that night, the sun was out the next day for more fun visits with Mickey and friends.

Joe D. Leo, Ben Werntz, Mel Jenkins, of Marmora, and Joe C. Leo, of Englewood, Fla., traveled with the Gazette to Quepos, Costa Rico in January for a fishing trip. All are members of the Ocean City Fishing Club.

Devin, Dillon, Madison and Quinn Menhardt of Cape Coral, Fla., formerly of Ocean City and Doylestown, Pa., took the Gazette to the Naples, Fla. zoo with their grandparents, Ray and Marie Schmidt of Ocean City and Huntingdon Valley, Pa. Grandmom is in the picture. Grandpop is the photographer.

Just strolling through  

Shawn and Eddie of Egg Harbor Township and their cousins Keirsten and Keri of Maple Shade spent a week in Walt Disney World visiting the Animal Kingdom, where this picture was taken, the Magic Kingdom and the Epcot Center as well as Sea World. Note the cagey placement of The Current.

Staying warm in Lauderdale

Kim Camp and her boys, B.J. Perna, 17, and Larry Perna, 14, of the Laureldale section of Mays Landing, took a seven-day trip to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., during the major cold spell here the second week of February. High temperatures there were between 80 and 85 degrees. They said the locals who took the picture loved the way The Current prints travel photos from its readers in New Jersey.

Marco Island cutie

Nineteen-month-old Ryan Anthony Batt of Egg Harbor Township took The Current with him in February to visit his Nanny and Pop for three weeks in beautiful Marco Island, Fla.

Weekend getaway

 Michael, Joy, Jake and Max Lewkowski of Northfield traveled to Universal Orlando Resort in Florida over the President's Day weekend. They flew through the winter storm that overtook our area on Feb. 14, only to find Orlando's temperatures to be 32-40 degrees in the evening and 60 degrees and sunny during the day, but said it was still nice to get away.

Miss Ocean City, Danielle Greene, took the Gazette to Disney World, in Florida, on Jan. 11.

  Hanging with the Colts

Daniella Vincent, 9, of Linwood cheered the Indianapolis Colts to victory during a long weekend with her family in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., at the Harbor Beach Marriott. The Colts were guests at the hotel during their stay for
Super Bowl XLI.

A Goofy picture

Morgan, Mackensie and Katie Logue of Egg Harbor Township stayed at the Wilderness Lodge while visiting Walt Disney World in Florida with their grandmother Marie Logue and Uncle Jmes Logue of Margate and Aunt and Uancle Linda and David Brown of Egg Harbor Township.
