Janet and Dick Schoneker, from Ocean City, visited
the Viking island of Iceland for 11 days. For an island of only
280,000 inhabitants and no trees, the natural beauty was magnificent
and beyond description. The many snow covered mountains with
glaciers, volcanoes and craters with their lava fields, waterfalls
along with the bubbling mud pots and gurgling hot springs and
geysers was a photographers dream. The whale and bird watching boat
trips around the shores provided lots of excitement. Let’s not
forget the world famous "Blue Lagoon" with its 100 deg waters to
relax in. This is the only place on Earth that is similar to the
lunar moon surface and is where the Apollo astronauts trained for
their moon missions.

Icelandic chill can’t compare
with Jersey’s
Jill, Charlie, David and Ben
Ojserkis of Linwood took a trip to Iceland, which they said was
warmer than South Jersey by at least 10 degrees the whole time they
were there. The longtime readers of The Current.said it is a
wonderful country to visit, even in the winter. Between swimming in
a geyser-fed lake when the outdoor temperature was 36 degrees and
exploring glaciers and waterfalls on the south shore, there was
plenty to keep the four travelers busy, and they said the people
were friendly and the scenery was awesome.
