The Hicks and Mossbrook families took a vacation in March to Italy. They visited Rome, Florence and Venice and brought the Gazette with them. Mainland takes the island

On a weekend trip to Versailles, France he visited the Palace of Versailles with the Gazette where King Louis XIV had the capital. Enjoying the trip of a lifetime

Barbara TenEyck of Galloway Township and her friend Susie Simms of Greensboro, Ga., visited the Trevi Fountain in Rome in June. They spent three weeks in Italy visiting Lake Como, Venice (their favorite), Pisa, Florence, Tuscany, Amalfi, Capri, Ana Capri, Naples and Rome. They said it was the trip of a lifetime.

ItalyTouring Italy coast to coast

Janice and Mark Bond of Egg Harbor Township took an 18-day trip to Italy with family, traveling the entire country from the south Amalfi Cost, Positano, Sorrento and Rivello all the way to the Tuscany region of San Gimignano, Vinci, Pisa, Florence and Venice, and then back down to Rome for four days. They traveled with Janice’s twin sister, Judy Bond, and her husband, John.
Tim Green and Stefanie Migioia of Ocean City traveled to Italy for two weeks in August. Venice, where the picture is taken on the Grand Canal was one of their amazing stops, which was accompanied by the Gazette.

Henry “Doc” and Debbie Gertzen of Linwood, Len and Susan Christopher of Margate, and Bill Varani and Carleen Heiser of Galloway Township spent two weeks traveling to Venice, Florence, Tuscany and Rome in July during a trip organized as a birthday celebration. Doc, Len and Bill, friends from Margate for more than 50 years, were celebrating their 60th birthdays. Mary Ann Brown from the city clerk’s office vacationed in Italy in May with her nieces. Three generations went to the family roots and brought the Gazette with them. Here they are visiting the Fountain of Trevi.

Isle of Capri, Italy

 The Boland family of Ocean City, Bill, Carol, Michael and Grace, Frank and Ruth and John and Nancy, enjoy the Isle of Capri, Italy during their Mediterranean cruise to Greece and Italy. The Gazette, of course, was in tow.

Coasting through Amalfi

Barbara Coles of Mays Landing and her sister Mary took their annual trip abroad this year to Sorrento, Italy, and the magnificent Amalfi Coast. They especially loved Positano, a seaside village perched on the cliffs south of Naples.

Florence

Appreciating the art of Florence

 Terri Horner of Northfield and Barbara de Mauriac of Ocean City vacationed in Florence, Italy, famous for art such as Michelangelo's statue of David. Their 14-day Mediterranean cruise in September took them to Italy, Greece, Croatia, France and Spain.

Friends explore Italy

Friends Stephanie Withers of Galloway Township and Donna Perri of Northfield visited Italy in October 2006. They traveled to Rome, Pisa, Florence and Venice where they snapped this photo in front of St. Marks Basilica.

Real volcanic eruptions

 Richard and Irene Barsotti and Angie and Jim Grillo, left to right, of Mays Landing toured Sicily in October. They are pictured here at Mount Etna, which can be seen erupting in the far background. Just behind them is the hardened lava from the eruption of 2002.

 

Dot Wood, of South Seaville, and Harriett Reardon Bailey, of Ocean View, took a three-week tour with Grand Circle of the Lake District in Italy, Switzerland and Austria. Here they are with the Gazette at Kleine Scheidegg with the gorgeous Jungfrau Mountain behind them.

Celebrity sighting in Rome

Anne Marie and Denny Sher of Margate, pictured here at the Coliseum, spent a fabulous eight days in Rome in November. Highlights of the week were the papal audience and the privilege of kissing the pope’s feet. They reported that while Anne Marie was shopping at Hermes, she chanced upon Brooke Shields, who chatted with her and helped her choose a scarf. The two said they also joined the paparazzi on the Spanish Steps in front of Tom Cruise’s hotel and spoke with Franco Harris at dinner and discovered they had mutual acquaintances.

From Florence, with love

Pictured in front of the famous Duomo in Florence, Italy, Lisa and Drew McCrosson of Somers Point, formerly of Upper Township, took The Current along as they celebrated their marriage while cruising the Mediterranean Sea.

Gondola ride was Italy highlight

Samantha Florio and Maura Bakley of Northfield are pictured in front of the Leaning Tower of Pisa during their spring break trip to Italy. They saw many famous Italian attractions including the Coliseum, the Spanish Steps, the Trevi Fountain and the canals of Venice. They also took an unforgettable boat trip to the Blue Grotto in Capri. They enjoyed walking around the cities, and eating gelato, margarita pizzas and ravioli. Their favorite part was the gondola ride in Venice.

Seasoned cruisers

On Sept. 23 a group of locals set sail on a tour of the Mediterranean that included Venice, Croatia, Athens, Santorini, Naples, Isle of Capri, Rome, Pisa, Monte Carlo and Barcelona.

The group, which has been on several cruises together, is planning its next cruise to New Zealand and Australia in the spring of 2008.

The Peck Family, Bob, RJ, Christine and Matthew took their favorite paper, the Middle Township Gazette to Rome in March of 2007. They spent an amazing 11 days touring Italy. They spent time in Rome, Venice, Florence, Sorrento, and Pompeii.

Pious pilgrimage

Yolanda Stacchini of Smithville, her daughter Amy Strawder (center) of Galloway Township, and cousin Beatrix Emich of Austria went on a St. Pio of Pietrelcina pilgrimage at San Giovanni Rotondo in Italy in September.

Giving Pisa a push

This fall, Joyce Moore and daughter Ashely, both from Absecon, and their friend Ken Lamanteer from Port Republic took a tour of Italy.  They visited Rome, Venice, Florence, Pisa and the Almafi Coast. This is a picture of Ashley and Joyce attempting to hold up the Leaning Tower of Pisa while holding The Current. Lamanteer took the picture. They said Italy is a beautiful country that everyone should try to see.

First stop: Rome

 Fred and Sally Romonowski of Egg Harbor Township began their 65th birthday celebration with The Current at St. Peter's Square at the Vatican in Rome, Italy.  From there they went to Florence, Venice, Verona, Switzerland, and Stams, Austria, where they visited the famous Cistercian Abbey built in 1273.

Marking 30 years in the Eternal City

Carol and Scott Higbee of Absecon celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary in Italy in late July. On July 27 they posed inside the ruins of the Coliseum in Rome.

Checking out his Sicilian roots

Bob and Sheri Friedenberg and Marie and Don Chillemi of the Four Seasons at Smithville in Galloway Township visited Don Chillemi's ancestral home at Oliveri, Sicily in April.

One big, happy family

Kyle, Beth, Kelsea, Ryan and Evan Pearce, of Seaville, traveled with the Gazette to Rome in November during a trip to attend a relative’s wedding in Italy.

Sorrento proposal

Brian Cottelli chose this romantic setting in Sorrento, Italy, overlooking Mt. Vesuvius to propose to Cheri Rice during their 10-day trip to Italy. The Egg Harbor Township Intermediate School teachers and township residents are hoping for a wedding in the summer of 2007.

Honeymooning at the Coliseum

Stella and Marc Wiser were married Sept. 3 and spent their honeymoon in Rome. They live in Philadelphia but spend weekends in Margate, where Marc was born and raised.

Barbara and Charlie Ferris, Jack and Regina Evans, and Ginny and Paul Becker, of Ocean City, traveled recently to Italy, the Greek Islands and Turkey with the Gazette. The photo was taken in Ephesus, Turkey.

Four from Absecon under the Tuscan Sun

 Gary and Louise Baca and Marge and Lou Paradis, Louise’s parents, of Absecon enjoyed a European vacation in celebration of the Paradis’ 50th anniversary. The Current traveled with them to Paris, Venice, Florence, Tuscany and Rome on a two-week whirlwind vacation. They stayed in the villa  Relais Fattoria in Greve in the Chianti wine valley for five glorious days soaking up the Tuscan sun, not to mention Tuscan food and wine.
