Marking a milestone at Jellystone
Ginger and Jerry Hammell of Absecon celebrated their 50th
wedding anniversary at Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park in Mays
Landing, with their grandchildren Sophia and Cole Facenda.
It was a beautiful day to visit Cape May for lunch at the

Getting some sculpture culture
The Jewish Community Center Senior Scene traveled to
Hamilton, N.J. Oct. 24 to visit Grounds for Sculpture, a
35-acre public sculpture park dedicated to promoting

Desperate to see ‘Despereaux’
Teacher Sylvia McFadden of St. Joseph Regional School in
Somers Point and her third-grade students recently attended
the opening of the movie “The Tale of Despereaux.” More than
60 students read the novel last year in McFadden’s class.

Ocean City Girl Scout Troop 45730 started the New Year off
by taking a dip in the Atlantic Ocean during the Polar Bear
plunge. They brought along the gazette to keep warm.
The Henney and Decollewaert families show their Christmas
cheer and support for The Leader and America's new
president, Barack Obama.
The Palermo family went to the new indoor waterpark in Mt.
Laurel with the Gazette. This is Annie Palermo, 8, pictured

Ocean City Hawk cheerleaders won first place in Cheer Tech's
Island Cheer Championship in Wildwood in November. They took
along the Gazette for good luck.
The Gazette traveled to Avalon to be seen with the World
Series trophy won this year by the Philadelphia Phillies.

10 to practice on the field and watch a game, too bad the

Jennifer Arthur, of Rio Grande, traveled with the Middle
Township Gazette to Monster-Mania Con 11 at the Crowne Plaza
Hotel in Cherry Hill. She is standing with life size
sculptures of Boris Karloff’s Frankenstein and The
Inquisitor who were sculpted by Thomas Kuebler and got to
see a live production of the Rocky Horror Picture Show.
The Caribbean Cab Co. recently shuttled The Leader and the
girls from Tony’s Island Café in North Wildwood to the
Borgata Casino for a day of fun and chance.
Boaters on a power trip
A group from the Absecon Island
Power Squadron, a nonprofit boating organization, went on a
bus trip to the Hunterdon Hills Playhouse in Hampton, N.J.
to see the play "The Last of the Red Hot Lovers" as a

In July, the Dance Dynamics Company and All-Star Competition
Teams competed in Dance Xplosion's National Finals at the
Wildwood Convention Center where they won numerous awards.

On April 23, Helen Carter’s fifth grade enrichment class
from Upper Township traveled with the Gazette to the New
Jersey Law Center in New Brunswick to present their mock
trial “Coaster Catastrophe” which took second place honors.

Ten-years-olds Dylan McGuckin, Evan Oliva and Jack Roberts
competed in the Ocean City Triathlon on May 18 and brought

Members of the Starstruck Dance Company pose with the

attended across New Jersey this season. They will be
attending nationals in July to compete against dancers
across the East Coast.
Middle Township Police Officer Steven Nozsak in his Atlantic
City Medical Center room with the Gazette Friday, May 16,
recovering from on-the-job injuries suffered when he was hit
by an ATV in the early morning hours of May 14 in the
Edgewood section of Middle Township. He has undergone one
surgery to repair his severely broken left leg, and was
scheduled for at least one more. Thanks to Wildwood Police
Lt. Chris Howard for submitting the photo.
Michael Celinski and his mom Lorraine took The Leader with
them to their friends Peter and Ginger’s summer home in Sea
Side Park to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. Fun was had by all
who were there as this picture shows. The parade was two and
a half hours long.
The seventh and eighth grade confirmation class at St.
Augustine’s School from St. Augustine’s Parish and Our Lady
of Good Counsel Parish and the religious education students
of St. Augustine’s Church got together in March to fill
decorated shoe boxes with items to be sent to the troops
overseas. Shown with Gazette are the confirmants with their
religious education educators Sister Elizabeth Mercer and
Miss Kathy Morris.
Kathleen Hogan of Seaville and Brandon Hadtke of Ocean
View took their Gazette to the Baysea District Fellowship
Dinner and Eagle Recognition Ceremony at the Wildwood
Convention Center. Kathleen was honored with the Scouter of
the Year award and Brandon was honored with the Cub Scout of
the Year award. They both received a Congressional
recognition certificate and a letter of commendation by the
State of New Jersey. Kathleen and Brandon are members of the
Webelos II Cub Scout Den of Pack 79 in Marmora.

All hands on deck
The Webelos II of Galloway Pack 76 spent a night aboard the
Battleship New Jersey Feb. 2. The boys got a taste of Navy
life by sleeping in the sailors’ berths and dining in the
mess hall. By exploring the ship by night and day, they
learned about daily life aboard the ship and weapons,
communications and history. Starting in front from left to

Seaside camping with a twist
Girl Scout Troop 5048, of Galloway Township, took The
Current along when they went camping in Wildwood at Beach
Jam, an event for Scouts that features live entertainment,
rides at Morey’s Piers, catered meals and beach bonfires.

After successfully completing the Danskin Women’s Triathlon

and Noel Wirth of Ocean City celebrated with the Gazette.
Frankie and Freddie take a vacation
Monsters like to keep informed, and when Frankie (Rich
Adams) and Freddie (Rick Gorbig) of Mays Landing attended a
Sept. 29 Halloween celebration at Pea Pirate Campground in
West Creek with family and friends, they took along The
Current. The party was a scream, and everyone had a
frighteningly good time.
The Gazette traveled to the Ladies’ Links and Lunch of Ocean
City in September at Sea Oaks in Tuckerton.
An out-of-the ordinary stetting for a family reunion
here, Betty Bacharach Institute for Rehabilitation. Cathy
Adams, surrounded by two-thirds of her family and the
Gazette, celebrated her recuperation from bilateral knee
replacement surgery with a picnic on the center’s grounds.
Cathy and Herb, of Ocean View (formerly Ocean City) are the
very proud parents of seven children, 23 grandchildren and
eight great-grandchildren, who are all waiting anxiously for
“Nanny” to break out her dancing shoes again.
Field trip to Trenton
Fourth-grade students at
the Seaview School in Linwood took a class trip to Trenton
Thursday, March 29. Their day included a tour of the State
House, the Old Barracks Museum and other sites. This picture

Leader meets Al Martino
Paul Russo, of Cool Scoops, visits 'Godfather' Al Martino last week
at Resorts Casino Hotel in Atlantic City. Al likes to catch up on
his reading before the show. Al was in town and took some time to
speak with Paul about the upcoming
Wildwood by The Sea Film Fest in September.
On Feb. 10, the Gazette traveled to Boardwalk Hall in
Atlantic City for the Spirit Unlimited Battle at the Boardwalk Cheer
and Dance Competition with the Upper Township Braves. The Braves

UT Cheerleaders
The Gazette traveled
to Interboro High School in Winslow Township on
Nov. 19 to compete with the Upper Township Braves Cheerleading
Squad. The Braves came in first place in their division. This was

Girl Scout camp-out
Egg Harbor Township Girl
Scouts went camping as a community at Camp Sacajawea in
Newfield, N.J., May 11-12. Throughout the weekend there
were about 110 Girl Scouts in attendance. Each troop made
its own store for the girls to visit and work on crafts and

The Red Hat Clam Shell Queens of Wildwood gathered recently at the
Washington Inn in Victorian
Cape May for an afternoon of fashion and
friendship. Their special October guest, The Wildwood Leader, agreed

enjoyed cosmopolitans, fine dining, spa treatments,

the middle of the crowd) attended the 10th annual Matera
family Easter egg hunt. Pictured are Joe, Laura, Claire,
Kate and Louise Matera who would like to thank all the
family and friends that join them each year. Thanks for all
the Easters celebrated, hunting eggs, riding ponies, eating
jelly beans and creating precious memories.
A group of 32 people from Second Cape May Baptist went
camping and canoeing at Bass River State Park. Chloe Mack is
holding the Gazette at Mick’s Canoe Rentals before heading
down the river on a three-hour tour. A great time was had by
all. Swinging from a Tarzan rope was a highlight.
The U-12 Blizzard Soccer Team took first
place at the SJGL East Division Championships over the
Memorial Day weekend at a tournament in Voorhees and the
Gazette was there to celebrate the victory.
The Gazette was on hand for the surprise
60th birthday party for Jimmy Fusco, president of the
Commodore Club in Sea Isle City. The Gazette is pictured
with Jimmy Bennett, Jimmy Fusco and Sea Isle City Mayor
Lenny Desiderio. Lenny is holding a proclamation declaring
May 1, 2007, as Jimmy Fusco Day in Sea Isle City.
The Gazette traveled to the
Sovereign Bank Arena in Trenton on Jan. 20 with the Upper Township
Braves for the Atlantic Cheer and Dance Championships Heavy Hitters
Open competition. The Braves were in pee wee recreation where they
won first place as well as the judge's Wow Factor Award for their
performance. Varsity was in junior recreation and took second place.

Battleship
retreat is a treat for Scouts
Pack 634,
which meets at Assumption Roman Catholic Church in Galloway
Township, attended an overnight Encampment and Religious Retreat on
the Battleship New Jersey docked on the Camden waterfront Jan.
27-28. The nation's most decorated battleship, it is 887 feet long,
nearly three football fields wide and eleven stories high, and
weighs 45,000 tons. The pack toured the ship's legendary 16-inch gun
turrets and combat engagement center and participated in a simulated
launch of a Tomahawk missile. The members saw the captain's and
admiral's cabins and climbed up and down the ship's original ladders
and companionways. They served chow, ate in the crew's mess hall and
slept in the crew's bunks two decks below. They also attended Mass
and the Stations of the Cross and said the rosary. They also packed
40 care packages to ship overseas to our military troops.
Christmas shopping
with the Leader
In Atlantic City is Carol D' Alessandro, Helen Johnston and Joan
Husband who took The Wildwood Leader Christmas shopping with them
last week.
Lighter than air
Simone and Richard Zoladz of Linwood took a ride Aug. 26 aboard the
Horizon Blue Cross and Blue Shield blimp. They took off from Bader
Field in Atlantic City a little before 9 a.m. and were in the air
for an hour, reaching an altitude of 800 feet. They won the ride in
a contest sponsored by the radio station Cat Country 107.3. It was a
thrilling and wonderful experience.
A

Toro
The Gazette traveled to Six Flags Great
Adventure, in Jackson, and rode "El Toro," seen
in the background. El Toro is the second tallest
wooden roller coaster is the United States with
speeds of 70 mph and a 176-foot drop. Kristi and
Kirk Rohrer, from Seaville, were also along for
the ride.
