Cars and football – the perfect vacation

of Galloway went camping near Lehigh University to see the Eagles
training camp. Their trip included a visit to Das Awkscht Fescht in
Macungie, Pa., one of the country’s largest antique and classic car
shows, where they enjoyed the cars, arts and crafts, food and music.
Paddling in the Poconos
The Aungst, Hires, Neithardt and Cochran families of Absecon enjoyed
a weekend whitewater rafting in the Poconos.
Labor Day of love for chocolate fans
The Ring family celebrated Hershey's 100th anniversary over the
Labor Day weekend. They traveled to Hershey, Pa., to have fun on the
rides and eat plenty of chocolate. In front of Hershey’s Chocolate
World are Ray and Lorraine of Galloway Township, and Michela,
Josephine, Michael Jr., Jena and Michael of Absecon.

Sea Isle City's Boy Scout Troop 76 recently traveled with the
Gazette to Camel Back Mountain in the Pocono Mountains for a weekend
of skiing, snow boarding, tubing and camaraderie. After a few
lessons for those who were novices, 14 scouts and seven chaperones
enjoyed near perfect weather conditions, an ideal snow base, and the
chance to learn skills that will help the young adventurers earn
their skiing merit badges.
Great times at Great Wolf Lodge
Best friends Michele Gaskill, with sons Mason and Matt Barrella, and
Maria and John Jackson, with daughters Julia and Morgan Jackson,
vacationed together during Super Bowl Week Feb 3-6 at the Great Wolf
Lodge in the Poconos. Time was spent enjoying the indoor water
park and on the slopes with skiing at Camelback Resort. Shown left

Liberty Belles
Girl Scout Troop 3065, fourth-grade students from Galloway Township,
traveled to Old City Philadelphia with The Current Saturday, Sept.
29. The girls took part in the Constitutional Walking Tour,
exploring America’s birthplace for their model citizen badge.

Jam, over Presidents’ weekend. Ocean City friends who helped him

Make her chocolate Dutch
Anna Attardi, 8, of Margate visits Dutch Wonderland in Lancaster,
Pa., for the day, before making her way to Hershey Park for its 100
Years of Happy celebration.
The Bloomstead, Shiavone and Sedberry families traveled to Hershey,
Pa. with the Gazette in December for a long weekend. Shown from left

Summer book club takes a trip
Members of Mrs. Boney's book club ended their summer session at the
Great Wolf Lodge in the Poconos. The boys spent the summer reading
several books and had a great time at each meeting discussing the
books. Their last meeting was held at the Great Wolf Lodge on an
overnight trip. Book club readers are Lawrence Hartline, Tyler Manno,
Troy Manno, Alex Boney, Thomas Giardino, Mac Boney, Tommy Kammer,
Nick Ellison, Ryan Ellison and Zach Morgan.
In the swim and the snow at the Poconos
Briella DiGiacinto of Ventnor and Lauren Runge of Smithville visited
the Great Wolf Lodge in the Poconos. They had fun tubing at
Camelback and swimming in the huge indoor swimming pool water park
at the lodge.

Four Linwood families enjoyed a western hoedown vacation in March at

Mackenzie Smith of Margate and her family recently visited the Amish

Nicholas Branin, 6, of Linwood visited the Train and
Railroad Museum in Strasburg, Pa., Sunday, Sept. 23, taking
along The Current.
Kyle Norbury, Stephen Campbell, Lauren Norbury, Mark Norbury and
Jennifer Campbell of Petersburg stop to check out the view from an
old railroad tunnel along the Lehigh Gorge Rail Trail with the
Gazette this past October. The 25-mile trail follows the Lehigh
River between White Haven and Jim Thorpe, Pa.

In July, the Vicente children of Northfield vacationed at
Great Wolf Lodge in the Poconos with several of their

of Galloway Township, took The Current to Longwood Gardens in
Kennett Square, Pa., Jan. 6 to see the Christmas decorations and
lights. The temperature was 70 degrees.

A tradition
is born
The LoPresti,
Lacava and Scillieri families of Egg Harbor Township and the
DiFranco families of Mays Landing and Brigantine enjoyed a fun
weekend at the Blue Mountain Hideaway in the Poconos Feb. 8-11.
There were four generations together under one roof, celebrating
family and making wonderful memories. Activities included sledding,
tubing, skiing and snowboarding – and for those who did not want to
weather the cold, there was always a poker game going. They said
they had so much fun that the trip will now be a yearly tradition.
The Baehrle family reunion was held
at Split Rock in the Poconos during the week of Oct. 1 and the

Five Absecon
families headed to Camelbeach in the Poconos in August. While there,
they celebrated five August birthdays – each family had one member

The weekend of Oct.6,
The Wildwood Leader traveled up to Bethlehem, Pa., to
Lehigh University to support local athlete Jennifer
Fetsick. Lehigh went 2-0 on the weekend with two big
Patriot League victories with a 1-0 win over Bucknell
and a 2-1 win over Colgate. The gang also celebrated
Jennifer’s 20th birthday! Happy birthday, Jennifer!

Latimer, of Ocean View, took the Gazette to
Pittsburgh, Pa. for the opening game of the 2006 NFL

Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia to watch the Phillies sweep the
Chicago White Sox.

The
Punxsutawney kid
Nicholas Hansen, a fourth-grader from Absecon, took the trek up to
Gobbler's Knob in Punxsutawney, Pa., on Groundhog Day. Punxsutawney
Phil's official forecast was read at 7:28 a.m.: He did not see his
shadow, foretelling an early spring. In the 120-year history of
Groundhog Day in Punxsutawney, the groundhog has seen his shadow and
predicted six more weeks of winter 96 times. Now, was it Nicholas or
The Current that brought such luck?
A walk in the park for autism research
The Dooley and Leonetti families, both from
Absecon, traveled to Philadelphia to participate in the WALK NOW
2006 for the Cure Autism Now Foundation. The event was held
Sept. 30 at Citizens Bank Park to raise awareness and funds
for autism research. More than $575,000 was raised by more than
6,000 walkers participating. Team Dude, named for Patrick Dooley,
holding The Current, completed the walk and received donations from

While
enjoying a leisurely Sunday morning reading of her favorite
newspaper, the Gazette, Greta Schwartz, second from right, was
kidnapped by Team Red Sky members Pam Pacifico, Heather Bloomstead
and Jeff Schwartz and forced to run a relay in the Philadelphia
Marathon.
Walking for breast cancer awareness
Michele Fairweather of Absecon participated in the Susan G.
Koman three-day walk for breast cancer awareness in Philadelphia.
The walk began Oct. 6 at the Willow Grove Mall and ended at
Villanova University stadium on Sunday, Oct. 8. More than 3,000
participants walked 20 miles each day, raising $6.6 million for
breast cancer research. Fairweather walked in honor of
her aunt, Melinda Danieli, who is a two-year survivor of breast

Taking The Wildwood Leader with them to

The
Current takes a swim
Here's a first for
The Current! George Butrus and his son Vinnie, 12,
of Linwood, had just finished their final dive for
scuba certification when they took our newspaper for
a dry run under water. They took this picture at
Dutch Springs near Bethlehem, Pa., accompanied by
their dive instructor, Gene Peterson of Atlantic
Divers.
Doug and Bobby Shallcross of Beesley's Point traveled with
the Gazette to West Chester University in July to attend the
Dhani Jones Football Camp. They stayed in the college dorms
and participated in three-a-day practices. Along with Dhani
Jones, who was recently released by the Philadelphia Eagles
and signed by the New Orleans Saints, they also got to meet
Eagles players Jason Avant, Quintin Mikell, Tank Daniels,
Max Jean-Gilles and Nick Cole. This was the third year of
camp for Doug and Bobby's first. Doug received the
outstanding offensive lineman award and Bobby received the
Dhani Jones Award. Doug and Bobby are pictured with Dhani
Jones, who is holding the Gazette.
Stephen
and Jennifer Campbell are shown with the Gazette in April on
America's first superhighway, the Pennsylvania Turnpike. First
opened in 1940, this 10-mile stretch was bypassed and abandoned in
1968 and is now used as a recreation trail. The bike ride includes
trips through the 0.7-mile long Ray's Hill tunnel (pictured) and the
1.3-mile long Sideling Hill tunnel. Adding to the adventure, the
only lights in the tunnels are the lights that are brought with you.

The Parsons
family of Egg Harbor Township continued a family tradition Jan. 6 by
marching in the annual Mummers Parade. Bob Parsons is a fifth
generation Mummer; his son Bobby is a sixth generation Mummer.
Debbie Parsons and daughter Tara Parsons also join in the fun. Every
year they “strut” up Broad Street with the Downtowners Fancy
Brigade.
Even idols read The Leader!
Paul Russo, of Cool Scoops Ice Cream in North Wildwood and the
co-director of the “Wildwood by the Sea Film Fest” holds The Leader
with his friends the Golden Boys (from left) Fabian, Bobby Rydell
and Frankie Avalon. Russo is the Executive Producer of the new
Bandstand Documentary due to premiere at the Film Fest in September.
Russo and crew were invited to enjoy the show in Lancaster, Pa., and
were the first to interview Fabian after a serious car accident and
fall last week.
Slam dunk with The Current
Franklin
Champion of Northfield, Anthony Cerino, Chris Bergen and Brandon
O’Donnell took The Current to the Pocono Invitational Basketball
Camp in Stroudsburg, Pa. They practiced their basketball skills for
the new season. Good luck, fellas!
Baseball
vacation is a winner
Elizabeth and Matt Edwards of Linwood, the children of Karen Petitt
of Linwood, attended the 2006 Little League World Series in
Williamsport, Pa. Pictured with them is Jorge Villafranca, the
catcher for the team from Mexico, which lost to Japan in the
international championship. Japan went on to the world championship,
losing to Georgia.
Shopping at the Gift Show
Todd
and Diane Gerber, owners of Shirley's Country Corner in Absecon,
took The Current to the Philadelphia Gift Show in Reading, Pa.,
where they got some ideas for gift baskets and purchased a new line
of porcelain dolls for the upcoming holiday season.
