Come along for the ride
Whether you’re planning a dream vacation or a day trip, a regional
jaunt or round-the-world journey, our new online travel section has
something for you.
First, we’re expanding one of our most popular weekly features,
Travels with the Gazette. It’s clear that people in Cape May County
are hitting the road more than ever, and taking the Gazette along
with them. Travels with the Gazette—a travelogue with photos
starring you and your family, on vacation—will include more photos
and personal commentary from our readers, as well as tips from their
own trips about where to go and what to do.
Day Tripper is a weekly travelogue with great places to go and
things to do in and around Cape May County. From museums to natural
areas to amusement parks and more, Day Tripper will take you there
with photos, travel suggestions and even more tips.
Compiled by the Gazette staff, Day Tripper will visit some old
favorite destinations and a few undiscovered treasures—some right
around the corner, others farther afield. It will serve as your
personal tour guide, with advice about the best places to stop, shop
and dine. It will offer travel articles and related links to make
your vacation planning a little easier, and invite your comments and
participation as well.
Upcoming editions of Day Tripper will include:
* Atlantic City for families
* Broadway-bound: a visit to Manhattan’s theater district
* Trudging the Appalachian trail
* A day at the museum: from Philadelphia’s Rocky steps to great
local museums
* The renaissance city of Baltimore, Md.
* Cowtown Rodeo: a taste of the Old West in South Jersey
* Into the woods: where to go camping and hiking in Cape May
County
* Hoofing it: Best local places to go horseback riding
Day Tripper will kick off next week
with a day trip to scenic Lewes, Del. Join us as we journey to this
tiny historic community at the tip of Cape Henlopen, where the ocean
meets the Delaware Bay. The first leg of our trip (aboard the Cape
May-Lewes ferry) is half the fun. Then we’ll explore the city of
Lewes, founded by Dutch explorers in 1631. It is home to the
Zwaanendael Museum (an extraordinary example of 17th century Dutch
architecture), and Cape Henlopen State Park, where windswept beaches
and rugged terrain harbor vast numbers of shorebirds and other
wildlife, including horseshoe crabs, which migrate here by the
thousands in the spring.
Lewes is also a great town for walking, biking—and shopping.
Rehoboth Beach, home of the outlets, is right next door.
Read all about it next week – and every week -- in Day Tripper!
