MARGATE – The Margate Business Coalition formed in November and will hold its second meeting Monday, Jan. 9 and hopefully lay some plans to map its future, according to Howard Seiden, owner of Case’s Supermarket.
“We had about 25 people attend our last meeting. We are getting to know one another, and when we meet this time we hope to formulate some plans,” Seiden said.
“We are not part of the Margate Business Association. They are a good group and they do good things, but we really want to start new and not come under the Margate Business Association. We are not trying to light the streets or decorate for the holidays. They do that and they do a good job at it,” he said. Seiden’s only criticism of the MBA was that it was not interactive enough with local government.
“What we need is a group that will be able to interact with the governing body of the city. Right now it feels like they are not giving the business owners in Margate a second thought,” added Seiden.
Asked if he was the leader of the upstart business association, Seiden said, “Right now I am the one trying to lead the charge. But I am hoping that when we meet on Monday there will be other people who are willing to do the same.” A website created for the new group, www.margatebusinesscoalition.com, allows for a community bulletin board and is set up to provide a give-and-take of ideas between the business owners.
The Margate Business Coalition will meet 7 p.m. Monday in the Margate Senior Citizens Pavilion at South Huntington Avenue and the beach. For more information contact Seiden at (609) 823-3729. TOP
