MARGATE - City engineer Ed Walberg is requesting a little patience from city residents when municipal roadway projects get underway this month.
The largest of the projects is the reconstruction of Monmouth Avenue from Washington to Coolidge avenues. The N.J. Department of Transportation has partially funded the project that is part of the ongoing infrastructure improvements.
The work begins in less than two weeks, Walberg said.
A stormwater line will be installed along with curbs and gutters. Utility work is being done also.
"The stormwater line will tie into an existing line on Madison Avenue to try and deal with our stormwater issues. It will reduce flooding substantially and allow the water to dissipate faster," he said.
The road crew will work until Memorial Day when it will put down a base paving coat and clean up everything, he said. The crews will return to complete its work in the fall.
The second project is a stormwater project on Freemont Avenue from Argyle to Exeter avenues.
"It is a large stormwater pipe. Right now stormwater runs along the curb and gutters, and there is an issue with standing water. This project will help to alleviate the standing water and facilitate dissipation of the water at a much quicker rate," Walberg said. This is a capital improvement project."
The third project will be a repair along Washington Avenue that affected the roadway between Monmouth and Winchester avenues. Work will be completed in two weeks.
The road projects will cause intermittent street closings. Residents are reminded to use caution near the construction sites.
Walberg said the projects will be cleaned up by Memorial Day.
