Swift, Smallwood, Blumberg say they’ll take cue from voters
MARGATE -- Margate incumbent City Commissioner John Swift and running mates Carl Smallwood and Maury Blumberg say that they have learned something on the campaign trail. According to a press release, the candidates say they will fully support an elected school board if that is the will of the voters.
“We will strongly support an elected school board if that is the decision of the people of Margate on May 8,” Swift said in the statement.
“The best democratic processes encourage the voice of the people to be heard, and that is what we are experiencing now,” running mate Blumberg added. “If the city’s voters want an elected school board, then we will work diligently to encourage the most qualified candidates to throw their hats in the ring to best represent the children and the taxpayers of Margate.”
Smallwood said, “We plan on governing as a team with an ear to what the people of Margate want. We have learned through talking to many residents that an elected school board is a possibility that merits consideration, and our pledge to them is to represent their interests while leading with an open mind.”
