MARGATE – Margate City Commission candidates Mike Becker, Scott Abbott and Dan Campbell today pledged to reduce their city salaries by 35 percent if elected May 8. The running mates called the current $25,000-plus salary for the part-time commission position “excessive.”
“Taxes and spending are out of control in Margate,” said Becker. “We're serious about reining in spending, and to prove it, we are more than willing to lead by example and start the cuts with our own salaries.”
Abbott said that $25,000 for the part-time job in this tax climate is “just plain excessive.” “Margate taxpayers deserve better,” Abbott said.
“Our five-point plan to restore fiscal responsibility, stop runaway tax hikes and control spending through municipal caps sets us apart from the rest of the candidates running for Commissioner,” Campbell added. “Our pledge today to voluntarily reduce our salaries if elected is further proof that we are willing to walk the walk, not just talk the talk.” TOP
