Winter break at Longport Library

The Longport Library, 2305 Atlantic Ave., will hold Winter Break Kids/Teens Activities Dec. 23-30. Christmas volunteers

Members of Beth El Congregation in Margate will volunteer their time on Christmas Day, Dec. 25, to visit residents of Seashore Gardens Living Center in Galloway Township. Winter Break Camp

New Year's Eve party

Beth El Synagogue, 500 N. Jerome Ave. will ring in the New Year with a kosher evening starting 8:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 31. Sock drive

Atlantic City High School student Mackenzie Smith is collecting socks for the homeless in Atlantic City. Her goal is to collect 200 pairs by Jan. 1. Donations can be dropped off at the Margate Municipal Building, Ventnor City Hall, Marketplace Realty, Berkshire Hathaway offices in Margate and at the JCC. 'The Patriots' book discussion

The Milton & Betty Katz JCC will present  a discussion of "The Patriots"by Sana Krasikov, facilitated by Meryl Rodgers, a docent educator at the Museum of American Jewish History, 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 25. The program will also be presented at Beth Israel in Northfield at 7 p.m. The book tells the story of a generation of Americans abandoned by their country, and the secret history of two rival nations colluding under the cover of enmity. Volunteers needed

Ventnor Senior Transportation Service seeks volunteers to help from 8:45 a.m. to noon one morning a week as a van driver or dispatcher. The senior service provides local residents with transportation to appointments, the supermarket, salons and banks in the Downbeach towns. Guys Get Together

Checkmates Chess Club

Atlantic County Library System/Ventnor, 6500 Atlantic Ave., will hold an open chess program for all ages every Saturday from noon to 4:30 p.m., through Dec. 30.  Join chess expert Ken Esada and play a friendly game or two. Gathering Wool

Read and Play Baby

Need a Ride?

The Ventnor Senior Transportation Service provides free rides to the market, bank, beauty salon, doctor's office or lab in Longport, Margate and Ventnor to Ventnor residents age 60 or older without serious handicaps. The shuttle will operate 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday. To arrange a pickup call 609-823-7994 the day before and leave a message.


Senior activities in Ventnor

The Ventnor Senior Center, 6500 Atlantic Ave., offers various programs for senior citizens 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. daily. Transportation is provided by a county bus if needed. Lunch is provided for a small donation. For information call Diane Cherry at 609-822-9239.


Senior activities at the Rosin Center

The Rosin Center at the Herman Pogachefsky Senior Pavilion, 1102 Atlantic Ave., Atlantic City, holds weekday activities including knitting, computer basics, armchair exercises, yoga, health and musical programs, Bingo, Alzheimer's caregivers group and Shabbat luncheons on Fridays.
