Longport farmers market

The Longport Farmers Market is accepting applications from vendors for the 2018 season. This year’s market will be from 9 a.m.-noon every Saturday from June 30 to Aug. 25 behind Longport Borough Hall, 2305 Atlantic Ave.

Vendors of farm-fresh vegetables and fruit, local seafood, baked goods, local wineries, artisanal foods and handcrafted items as well as artists are encouraged to apply. Anyone interested in becoming a vendor can find the 2018 Farmers Market application form online at longportnj.gov or email mkyle@longport-nj.us for details.

Longport’s farmers market is a self-proclaimed “bike up” market where participants are encouraged to bike or walk to the market. In addition, Longport is New Jersey’s first municipality to enact a single-use bag fee. Visitors to the market are encouraged to bring a reusable bag for their market purchases. Longport’s ordinance requires that a 10-cent fee be charged for each bag provided by a vendor that is considered a single-use bag.

The Longport Farmers Market first began in June 2016. The borough of Longport in cooperation with its green team, Sustainable Longport, started the farmers market as a means to help the local economy, bring fresh produce and products to the community, and raise sustainability awareness.
