VENTNOR — The Ventnor Educational Community Complex held its semiannual Scholastic Book Fair during parent-teacher conferences last week. Librarian Debbie Brahmi suggested that holding the two together would bring in more students and parents.

On Monday, Nov. 20 dozens of families showed up to check out the books and activity sets on display.

Members of the Ventnor Middle School Student Council helped out during the event, offering trays of Italian cookies and bottled water. Clifford the Big Red Dog made his appearance to the delight of younger students.

Two authors held book signings. VECC teacher Shelley Lenhardt was there to sign copies of "My Daddy's Allergic to Wine," which tackles alcohol abuse in a way that is geared to young readers.

The other was H.D. Gordon, a former substitute teacher who has written books in the urban fantasy genre for young adults and adults. She has 16 books in print and is working on a new book for distribution in 2018.
