Lettering being installed on new Walmart

EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP — The new Walmart SuperCenter at Black Horse Pike and Fire Road is expected to open for business at 7 a.m. Wednesday, July 19, and will mark the event with four days of free activities, contests and giveaways.

The store's opening-day events will begin with an appearance by Tastykake brand character Kirby the Krimpet from 9 a.m. to noon. Face painting and ice cream floats will be available from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and the Philly Phanatic will show up 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

Oatie the Oatmeal character appear from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday, July 20, and Chipper Chip will be there 12:30-2:30 p.m. Friday, July 21. The final day of celebration will be Saturday, July 22, which will feature barbecue samplings from 11:30 a.m.–6 p.m., root beer ice cream floats from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. and an Oreo-stacking contest with character appearance at 12:30 p.m.

The new store, No. 3212, created 300 jobs and is expected to generate $1 million in annual tax ratables for the township, according to previous statements by Mayor James “Sonny” McCullough.
