Welcome to History Notes, our weekly feature that looks at Egg Harbor Township history. Each week we get a chance to learn or reminisce courtesy of Lynn Wood of the Greate Egg Harbour Township Historical Society, who shares early photos of places in Egg Harbor Township with our readers.
Price’s Mill was established by John Price as early as 1757. It was later known as Baker’s Mill then Collin's Mill. Behind the mill was an early one room schoolhouse. Today this is the site of the entrance to the Lakeside Condominiums on Mill Road by Patcong Creek, which was diverted when the Garden State Parkway was built in the 1950s.
Photos and information provided by “Journey Through Time, A Pictorial History of Egg Harbor Township, NJ.” This book is available at the Greate Egg Harbour Township Historical Society Museum.
A Christmas tree lighting ceremony will be held 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 6 at the museum, 6647 West Jersey Ave. The event will feature dancing, music, Santa Claus and free refreshments.
The museum/library is open 1-3 p.m. the first Saturday of the month and every Sunday. Go to gehthsmuseum.org, see the Greate Egg Harbour Township Historical Society Museum on Facebook, or call 609-813-2002.
