EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP – An Egg Harbor City man was charged with driving while intoxicated after police said he drove off Tilton Road and hit a utility pole in the Farmington section of the township shortly before midnight Wednesday, Jan. 4, closing parts of the road for seven hours.

Police said Reed Cramer, 39, was driving a 1997 Dodge Ram west on Tilton Road when he drove off the road near the main gate of the 177th U.S. National Guard Base, hit a utility pole, made a U-turn, and hit a sign and a Verizon junction box before coming to rest.

He was arrested and taken into custody and charged with driving while intoxicated and numerous other motor vehicle offenses.

The damage to the utility pole resulted in wires falling onto the road, where they were struck by other vehicles.

Tilton Road between Wrangleboro Road and the airport intersection was closed for seven hours for the investigation, cleanup and to replace the damaged pole. The crash was investigated by Officer Patrick Daly of the Egg Harbor Township Police Traffic Safety Unit.
