EHTHS receives $1,000 donation from Philadelphia Eagles, Axalta

Egg Harbor Township High School teacher Michael Martirone, center in Philadelphia Eagles jersey, holds the donation check with the help of some of his students.

On Wednesday, Nov. 9, representatives from the Philadelphia Eagles and sponsor Axalta Coating Systems honored Egg Harbor Township High School teacher Michael Martirone as a finalist for the 2016 All Pro Teacher Award and presented the school with a $1,000 donation to be used for supplies or programming.

The Axalta All-Pro Teachers recognizes outstanding sixth through 12th grade teachers in the tri-state area for their contribution to their students, school and community.

During the NFL season, Axalta Coating Systems and the Philadelphia Eagles selected 10 exceptional teachers to be honored in their classrooms and by Eagles fans.

Martirone was nominated and selected based on several criteria including educational drive, innovation in the classroom and community ownership. A teacher’s engagement with students outside of the classroom via afterschool programs, clubs, athletics or student government is also considered.

Each finalist received a $1,000 donation, four tickets to a select Eagles home game, one reserved parking pass to a select Eagles home game, a personalized replica Eagles jersey, a personalized Eagles football and an invitation for four guests to attend the breakfast awards ceremony.

As a finalist, Martirone is in the running to be the Axalta All-Pro Teacher of the Year, which if selected would award him an additional $10,000 donation to his school to be used for school supplies, an Eagles pep rally at the school and one Apple Vacations certificate for a trip to a resort in Riviera Maya, Mexico.
