EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP — Mayor James “Sonny” McCullough honored Public Works Director Al Simerson for 25 years of service with the township at last week's Township Committee meeting. Simerson was appointed to the position in 1995.

McCullough spoke of Simerson’s accomplishments and wished him continued success.

“Al has been a truly unique asset to the township during his 25 years of service,” McCullough said, saying he is honest, courteous and more. “Al has seen his share of blizzards, flooding events and even a derecho during his career. His commitment to the township and its residents has always been 100 percent.”

Simerson thanked the township for taking a chance on him when he was hired in 1992.

“I’ve got to be honest with you, if I could have looked out into the future 25 years ago, I’m not so certain that I would have signed up,” he said, to general laughter. “Now that we’ve gone through it, I’m very glad that we did.”
