Welcome to History Notes, our weekly feature that looks back through Egg Harbor Township's past. Each week we learn or reminisce courtesy of Lynn Wood of the Greate Egg Harbour Township Historical Society, who shares early photos of places in Egg Harbor Township with our readers online and in print.
Many remember Tom's Garden World near Zaberer's in the McKee City section of Egg Harbor Township.
Tom and Helen Caucci started the business in 1939. The garden center burned down in 1997 and was rebuilt larger. It was sold in 2003 and became a branch of the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
Shown in the bottom photo is the well-known little arched bridge inside the garden center. The building always looked amazing at Christmastime. Local children loved coming to see Santa and all the wonderful decorations.
Visit the GEHTHS Museum/Research Library at 6647 West Jersey Ave 1-3 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.
