Faculty and staff at Swift Elementary School invited students with relatives in the military to a breakfast celebrating Veteran's Day in the school's cafeteria Nov. 8. Starting the event six years ago in their own classroom, second-grade teacher Maryanne Hamilton and teacher aide Terri Watkins accommodated 35 veterans this year with help from paraprofessional Jill Haines.
Students from Kathrine Biel's second-grade class and Courtney Laut's third-grade class marked the breakfast's commencement after leading the pledge of allegiance and singing "God bless America."
Along with the veterans and their families, board of education member Jack Haines, Superintendent Kimberly Gruccio and Assistant Superintendents Stephen Santilli and John Davis also attended the breakfast.
The breakfast received funding from an Egg Harbor Township Education Association PRIDE grant.
