Showtime for the Greater Ocean City Theatre Company performance of "The Musical Adventures of Flat Stanley" is 10:30 a.m. at the Ocean City Music Pier, with a sensory friendly performance following at 1 p.m.

The Greater Ocean City Theatre Company will take audiences on a whirlwind trip around the world when it presents "The Musical Adventures of Flat Stanley" Tuesday, July 25 as part of this summer's family-friendly theatrical series

The show is based on the children's book "Flat Stanley" written by Jeff Brown in 1964, a literary and pop cultural phenomenon that is familiar to schoolchildren around the world.

The play was written by Timothy Allen McDonald, who brought Roald Dahl's "Willy Wonka" and "James and the Giant Peach" to the stage, according to organizers.

The story is about Stanley Lambchop, an ordinary 10-year-old living a normal life who dreams about traveling the world. One night the bulletin board on the wall above his bed comes loose and falls on top of him, and he wakes up the next morning as flat as a postcard.

The play is a whirlwind musical travelogue that follows Stanley as he is stamped, posted and canceled from Hollywood to France to Honolulu and beyond while he scours the globe for a solution to his problem.

Show time is 10:30 a.m. at the Ocean City Music Pier.

The theater company will also present a sensory-friendly performance of the show 1 p.m. at the Music Pier. Geared to those who have autism spectrum disorders and other sensory, social and cognitive disabilities, the show will feature a reduction of loud or jarring sounds and flashing or strobe lights, and modification of the house lights during the performance. Audience members are free to talk or move during the show, and there will be extra staff and volunteer support.

Guests are welcome to select their own seats and bring their own manipulatives, headphones, seat cushions, comfort objects and extra support items. Doors open 12:30 p.m.

The Children’s Theatre Series will conclude with a production of "Stinkykids the Musical" Aug. 1.

The show is about a girl who finds herself in a sticky situation when an epic wad of gum gets stuck in her hair.

All tickets are $10 in advance or $12 at the door. For tickets 609-399-6111 or see oceancityvacation.com/boxoffice.

The children’s series is made possible in part by a grant administered by the Cape May County Culture & Heritage Commission, from funds granted by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts.
