GALLOWAY TOWNSHIP — AtlantiCare is teaming up with the American Heart Association’s Little Hats, Big Hearts campaign to help new moms be heart smart from the start.

The program gives new moms a free kit that includes a handmade red hat and health information, including tips on raising a healthy family, ways mom can take care of herself, heart-healthy recipes and information on children’s heart health.

Babies born in February will receive knitted red caps to raise awareness of heart disease, the number one killer of Americans, and congenital heart defects, the most common type of birth defect in the country.

This year, AtlantiCare was one of six South Jersey hospitals to participate in the program. The other participating hospitals are Cape Regional, Inspira Health Network, Jefferson Health, Shore Medical Center and Virtua.
