2018 Brain Brawl Academic Competition

Cedar Creek High School in Egg Harbor City took first and third place in the 2018 Brain Brawl Academic Competition hosted by Oakcrest High School in Hamilton Township Feb. 8.

The contest featured 18 teams from nine area high schools competing in categories such as chemistry, geography, Shakespeare, mathematics, Nobel Peace Prize winners, literature, science, and famous quotes. 

The Cedar Creek academic team is advised by math teacher John Gazo.

"To have both of my teams place in the top three out of 18 is such an honor, and I am so proud of their hard work and dedication to academics," Gazo said.

Coming in first was the Cedar Creek maroon team, comprised of Samantha Brandt, Ebose Eigbe, Nick Klapatch, Saad Ayub and Dylan Vergara.

Mainland Regional High School placed second.

In third place was the Cedar Creek green team, with members Ben Russell, Matt McNabb, Hannah Schairer and Jake Nawrocki.
