GALLOWAY TOWNSHIP — South Jersey Gas will begin replacing gas mains in the township starting later this month and finishing in November.

The work is part of the company's planned replacement schedule.

Affected streets are South New York Road, Old Port Republic Road, East Ocean Avenue, East Belmar Avenue, East Pennsylvania Avenue, East Brown Avenue, Old Shore Road, East Dickinson Road, East Great Creek Road, Sharswood Avenue and Biscayne Avenue.

Work along South New York Road, aka Route 9, will be from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday to Thursday in compliance with state Department of Transportation lane-closure restrictions.

Work on other roads will be from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Thursday.

Safety personnel will direct traffic during lane and road closings, South Jersey Gas said in a statement. Residents and businesses will have access to their property during the work.

Residential gas meters may need to be replaced depending on their condition. Inside meters will be relocated outside.

Residential gas service will be shut off while the work is performed. The work should take eight hours or less to complete, the company said.

Though most work will be performed in the street, some service lines on private properties may need to be replaced.

Street openings will be patched until final restoration. Grass openings may not be restored until warm weather returns and grass can grow.
