According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Galloway Township has a total area of 114.8 square miles, comprised of 90.5 square miles of land and 24.3 square miles of water.

Following is a brief timeline of the naming of the place called Absecon. Before European settlers arrived, South Jersey was called Scheyechbi by the Lenni-Lenape. A division of the Lenni-Lenape, the Unalachtigo, called the Atlantic County area Absegami.
