HAMILTON TOWNSHIP — Hobby Lobby, a nationwide arts and crafts chain, will begin construction on a new store in the township in September.

The store will be in the Hamilton Commons shopping center on the Black Horse Pike, in the space previously occupied by Sports Authority.

The store is expected to open during the first quarter next year, said Bob Miller, the company’s communications coordinator.

“We are always looking for new locations to better serve our customers,” Miller said. “With the positive response we’ve received from customers in our ten New Jersey stores, we believe Mays Landing will be an excellent location. We are looking forward to being a part of the community and helping our customers lead a creative life.”

Hobby Lobby has more than 750 stores across the country, according to the company. Each store offers more than 70,000 crafting and home decor products including floral, fabric, needle art, custom framing, baskets, home accents, wearable art, wedding supplies, arts and crafts, jewelry making, scrapbooking and paper crafting supplies. Store hours will be Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Hamilton Township Mayor John Kurtz said he is excited to see another business locating in the township.

“As mayor, I am always interested in seeing a new business opening a location in Hamilton Township,” Kurtz said. “I’m sure our residents will welcome them with open arms, as it is a brand that everyone knows. I am also happy to see more employment opportunities become available both in the construction phase and once they are open for business.”

The new store is expected to bring about 35 to 50 jobs to the community. Starting salaries will be $15.70 per hour for full-time employees and $10.45 per hour for part-time associates.
