The Hamilton Township Education Association sponsored the ninth annual Ricky McAvaddy Blood Drive at the Joseph C. Shaner School on March 12. According to event chairperson Dorothy Gildiner, 72 pints of blood were collected from donors that will benefit 216 local hospital patients. The blood drive is held in memory of Ricky McAvaddy who passed away in 2010 after battling acute lymphoblastic leukemia for nearly four years.
During the past nine blood drives, 720 units of blood have been collected, which have benefited at least 2,160 people.
