NORTHFIELD — HealthMed, a new urgent care center in Kensington Square Plaza on Tilton Road, will hold a grand opening 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16.
Owned by Dr. Marcel Stern of Margate, the center is a sister site to the HealthMed at South Carolina Avenue in Atlantic City. HealthMed is planning to open a third center on Ohio Avenue in Absecon in early 2018.
Stern said he has operated in the South Plainfield area since 1984. He started an Atlantic City urgent care center in 2001 and has provided primary care for the Trump casinos, Bally’s, Resorts, Harrah’s and Local 54.
Stern said he partnered with AtlantiCare and eventually sold his urgent care center to the hospital, and now after five years is returning to the region.
“My heart is really in this area, and I am happy to be able to return and offer patients a choice for their health care,” he said in a phone interview.
To avoid lengthy waits, patients can register online before coming in. The center has X-ray on site, and I Stat machines for in-house blood testing. Stern said the Atlantic City site was designed to offer physical therapy, and the Northfield site will eventually have specialists such as allergists and gastroenterologists available to patients.
The 5,400-square-foot center in Northfield has registered nurses and nurse practitioners as well Stern on staff, and accepts most insurance plans including Medicare, he said.
Stern invites visitors to stop in and see the office, meet the staff, say hello to Santa Claus, take a tour and support the Toys for Kids campaign by bringing an unwrapped toy for a chance to win two tickets to Disney on Ice and other prizes.
