David Hughes, of Somers Point, has been named to the Greater Atlantic City Chamber of Commerce board of directors, chamber President Joe Kelly announced Wednesday.

Kelly cited Hughes' background in community service, health care, gaming, media, finance and fundraising in naming him to the board.

"David's wealth of experience and knowledge gained from so many different industries will make him a welcome addition to the Greater Atlantic City Chamber," Kelly said in a press release. "I have known David a long time, and seen firsthand the positive impact he has made for so many people. His incredible passion for this region will make him a tremendous asset to our organization."

Hughes is the chief financial and development officer at Shore Medical Center in Somers Point. He founded Somers Point-Community First, a volunteer community-based organization dedicated to the betterment of the city.

Hughes served in numerous executive positions in the casino industry and is currently a member of the board of directors and chairman of the audit and compliance committee for Rivers Casino in Pittsburgh. He is a board member of multiple gaming companies, and was most recently a board member, chairman of the finance committee and CFO for Trump Entertainment Resorts. He was a gaming executive with MTR gaming, Sun International, Mohegan Sun, and Penn National Gaming.

Hughes is a graduate of Stockton University and a board member for the university's foundation.
