RIO GRANDE – A 13-year-old was found dead in a bed, Sunday, June 4, and Middle Township Police are seeking answers into why the boy died.

Vincent Weiner, seventh grade at Middle Township Middle School, was unresponsive when police were dispatched to a on a call about an unresponsive 13 year old boy in the Rio Grande.

Shortly after police arrived, Atlanticare medics arrived on scene at which time the boy was pronounced dead, police said.

The preliminary investigation reveals the boy died sometime during the night, police said. An autopsy was conducted June 5, though the cause of death is undetermined, pending a toxicology report, they said.

Middle Township Schools Superintendent David Salvo said grief counselors are available to students in the public elementary, middle and high schools.

“I can’t comment further at this time on Vincent’s sudden death,” Salvo said in a press release. “I can confirm that it did not occur at school or on school grounds.”

Middle Township Police Chief Christopher Leusner also said that he could comment further, but that the cause of death is unknown at this time and the investigation is ongoing by the Major Crimes Unit and the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office are investigating.
