MIDDLE TOWNSHIP — Four athletes from four decades will be honored at Middle Township High School on Jan. 9 for their contributions to the school and the athletic program, a school official said.
"We want to recognize the people who made Middle Township athletics what it is today," said Sharon Rementer, vice principal and athletic director.
Rementer said students, alumni and community members will honor four distinguished alumni athletes by unveiling new banners of their retired jerseys in between the varsity and junior varsity girls basketball games at the school, 300 E. Atlantic Ave., Cape May Court House.
The honored athletes, their number, sport and year of graduation are John Roberson, 27, football, 1948; Ricky Harmon, 53, basketball, 1978; Jennifer Snyder Legler, 20, basketball, 1985; and John Leahy, 30, basketball, 1990.

The former Panthers had their jerseys retired after outstanding careers at Middle Township High School, school officials said. New banners depicting their jerseys will be hung over Tom Feraco Court so future generations will remember their names and contributions.
The ceremony will begin about 6:30 p.m., prior to the Lady Panthers varsity basketball game versus Mainland Regional High School.
“My hope is that in the future, we will recognize even more athletes that have made a positive impact on the school,” Rementer said.
