David Giulian has been named Middle Township Middle School's Baseball Player of the Week. This is Giulian’s first year on the team, and coaches said the seventh-grader has handled the catching duties most of the season and has done a nice job behind the plate. He has moved his way up in the batting order and has become an offensive threat for the Panthers as he is one of team leaders in many offensive categories, they said. Giulian works hard and is respectful, a young man who leads by example, coaches said. For example, when something is asked of the team, such as carrying or moving equipment, Giulian is one of the first to volunteer. He has made great strides this season and he has the potential to become one of the best players in the league next year, they said.
Owen Hall has also been named Middle Township Middle School's Baseball Player of the Week. Hall, a seventh-grader, picked up two wins on the mound this past week and coaches said his bat has started to heat up as well. Hall is a respectful, smart young man who plays and watches a lot of baseball. He also has served as the team's shortstop when not pitching and has been batting second in the lineup. Next year, Hall and a few other seventh-grade students will provide the middle school with a solid base of players, coaches said.
Audrey Deane has been named Middle Township Middle School's Athlete of the Week for softball. Deane has emerged as an everyday player in her second year on the team, coaches said. She has the skill set to play the infield and also can be relied upon to make the big defensive plays in the outfield. Coaches said Deane has proven to be a tough out at the plate with an on-base percentage over .500. She can look her pitches over and draw a walk, but also can make contact and crush the ball when needed, they said. Against Buena this year, Audrey was able to steal home in one inning and cleared the bases with an unofficial grand slam in the next inning. Off the field, Deane demonstrates creativity, mature insight, and unique perspective in her approach to her academics, school officials said. They said that Deane has all the makings of a successful student-athlete as she moves on to high school and college.
Mikayla Brannon has also been named Middle Township Middle School's Athlete of the Week for softball. Coaches described Brannon as the team's field general from the catcher's position. She has an understanding of what should happen after each pitch and helps keep the whole team focused on their responsibilities, they said. No matter who pitches, Brannon makes a read on their psychological state during the game and tells them what they need to hear, coaches said. At the plate, Mikayla has hit consistently all year long. She has several doubles and triples and is a leader in RBIs. She also has a knack in scoring winning runs, coaches said. In her years at the school, Brannon has demonstrated the same success in her work in the classroom as she has on the softball diamond, school officials said.
