Matthew Sgrigroili and Landon Osmundson are the Middle Township Middle School Co-Athletes of the Week for the boys soccer team. The coaches said both players had two strong games against Buena and Bridgeton. Each scored a goal in a tough 3-2 loss to Buena, and Sgrigroili also scored two goals in the junior varsity's 4-0 win.
In a hard-fought 4-2 loss to Bridgeton, Sgrigroili scored a goal for the Panthers, while Osmundson helped create many chances, the coaches said.
Osmundson scored two goals in the JV game, and they won 4-0. Coaches said both players continue to work hard and improve and do everything they can to help the team.
The Middle Township Middle School cross country Athlete of the Week is Mason Holland, who coaches said entered the season in running shape and never looked back. Day after day and run after run, Holland gives it his best, they said.
Additionally, coaches noted that Holland is unsurpassed in his enthusiasm for cross country and voluntarily helps the team beyond running.
Sophia Braun is the Middle Township Middle School field hockey Athlete of the Week. Braun plays starting left wing for this year's varsity team. Coaches said she is an extremely fast and skilled player, which makes her a scoring threat against opponents.
Braun has proved she has the ability to score goals from her position and does a great job working together with the forward line, they said.
Karlee Metz is the Middle Township Middle School girls soccer Athlete of the Week. Metz, an eighth-grader, has been instrumental in her role as leader, coaches said, and a role model and mentor to the younger girls, leading by example.
Metz has exhibited a leadership role, gives the effort on the field, and school officials say she will make an impact at the high school next year.
