Jun, 24-2009 1:43 pm

SEA ISLE CITY – County prosecutor Robert Taylor and Sea Isle City Police Chief Thomas Dintino announced the investigation of an aggravated assault in Sea Isle City this week.
The assault was reported last Wednesday, June 17. At approximately 1:20 a.m. Sea Isle City police received a 911 call from Erik Hernandez-Martinez, 24, who reported that he suffered an injury to his back. Police responded to the 200 block of 42nd Street where they discovered the victim.
He was bleeding from a laceration to his back, police said. The victim was treated on the scene by Sea Isle City Ambulance Corps and AtlantiCare medics. He was then transported to the Atlantic City Medical Center City Division for treatment.
Investigation was conducted by members of the Cape May County Prosecutor Office’s major crime and crime scene units and the Sea Isle City Police Department’s detective and patrol divisions.
Police said that Hernandez-Martinez and a co-worker, identified as Momchil D. Savev, 24, of Bulgaria, engaged in a physical altercation during which Savev attacked Hernandez-Martinez with a knife, resulting in a laceration to the back. There were several witnesses, police said.
Savev was later arrested and charged with aggravated assault, a second degree crime, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, a third degree crime. He was held in Cape May County jail in lieu of bail.
He could face from eight to 15 years in state prison, according to the prosecutor’s office.
