NORTHFIELD – Most folks who attend the biweekly City Council meetings are the only ones who get the chance to see Allison Flynn at work. She frequently mans the video camera that brings the meetings into living rooms in Northfield every other week.
Flynn, 17, is a member of Chuck Smith’s Advanced TV Production class at Mainland Regional High School. She was chosen by the Northfield Cultural Committee to be Miss Fourth of July.
“Miss Fourth of July has been part of our celebration since the bicentennial,” said Carol Patrick, president of the committee. “We try to choose a young lady who the Cultural Committee feels will represent our city well.”
Flynn is an avid runner who logs four miles daily just for the enjoyment of running. She plays field hockey and lacrosse at Mainland and will enter her senior year in the fall.
She is the daughter of Monica and Joe Flynn and has a younger sister, Mary Kate, and two older brothers, Matt and Tim.
Flynn had many supporters in the audience when she was recognized at the June 23 council meeting, where she was presented with the crown and sash she will be wearing as one of the honored guests in the 33rd annual Fourth of July parade that will begin 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Haddon Avenue and Shore Road and continue to Birch Grove Park.
