Wildwood Crest Summer of 2009 eventsFourth of July Freedom Festival July 3-5 Jul, 02-2009 11:39 am
A night of Bruce Springsteen with The B Street Band July 3WILDWOOD CREST -- As part of the Fourth of July Freedom Festival, the Wildwood Crest Recreation Department will host a special free live outdoor concert featuring the music of Bruce Springsteen with The B Street Band, the No. 1 tribute to the Boss. The concert will be held at the Fern Road Fitness Park, Fern Road and Ocean Avenue, on Friday, July 3 from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Originally known as Backstreets, The B Street Band was formed in Asbury Park in May of 1980. Since that time, the band has performed from Maine to the Bahamas for well over three million people. The addition of Springsteen look-alike, lead singer Glenn Stuart, furthered the success of The B Street Band, which now plays powerful Springsteen favorites as well as dance music. Selections include the legendary Roy Orbison, Billy Joel, ’70s Disco, Motown, Tom Petty and John Mellencamp. The B Street Band has performed with legendary E Street Band members Clarence Clemons, Max Weinberg and Vinnie "Mad Dog" Lopez. Earlier this year, the band performed at President Barack Obama’s inauguration ceremony in Washington and at Super Bowl festivities in Tampa. The band has played at hundreds of state and local fairs and festivals throughout the Northeast region. Over the last 29 years, the band has been estimated to have played in over 800 different nightclubs and 200 colleges through 20 different states and is now considered to be the longest running tribute band in the world. The July 3 performance by The B Street Band will serve as a homecoming of sorts for one of the band’s founders, keyboardist/vocalist Willie Forte, who was a member of a rock band called “Star” that performed at the now defunct Playpen nightclub in Diamond Beach in the late 1970s. Attendees are encouraged to bring a blanket or chair. Free parking will be available two blocks south of Fern Road Fitness Park at Myrtle Road and Ocean Avenue. In the event of inclement weather, concert will be held indoors at the Crest Pier Recreation Center at 5800 Ocean Ave. Call (609) 523-0202 or log on to www.visitwildwoodcrest.com for further information. The Mango Men, scheduled to play from 8 to 9:30 p.m. are one of the Delaware Valley’s most requested bands due to their energetic interactive performances. Opening for Mango Men from 6 to 7:30 p.m. will be Hideaway, a South Jersey-based band featuring covers of pop, rock and classic rock favorites. Bring a chair or a blanket and enjoy the concerts.
