CAPE MAY—The Coast Guard medevaced a 50-year-old male from a 48-foot fishing boat 17 miles southeast of Cape May after he sustained a leg injury Thursday, Aug. 6.
The Coast Guard received a call at 9:26 a.m. from a Good Samaritan aboard the Evening Star reporting Ronald Walker Jr. was aboard the fishing boat Constil and was bleeding due to a leg injury. Members of Cumberland County Fire and Rescue arrived on scene and stabilized the injury.
A rescue helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City and a rescue boat crew from Coast Guard Station Fortescue arrived on scene to assess the situation.
Walker was hoisted by the helicopter crew and transferred to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City for treatment.
“Safety at sea is vital,” Lt. Derek Ham, a pilot at Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City, said. “There are many dangers to be aware of while working on a fishing boat.”
