Longport
This weekend, Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 19 and 20, is most likely the end of the line for guarded beaches in Longport for the season, according to Beach Patrol Chief Dan Adams.
“There is a slight chance that we will have guards next weekend, but I think this is probably it,” he said Wednesday.
The beaches will be guarded 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at four locations: 16th, 26th, 30th and 33rd avenues. No beaches will be guarded weekdays.
Margate
The Margate City Beach Patrol is winding down coverage for the season and will have lifeguards on only two city beaches, Huntington and Washington avenues, Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 19 and 20 and next weekend, Sept. 26 and 27.
“We had guards last week and the weather was terrible. So at some point you have to make the call, and we decided to go to the last weekend of the month,” said Beach Patrol Chief Rich Kugel. “There are no guarded beaches during the week.”
Ventnor
The Ventnor City Beach Patrol has officially closed the beaches for the summer season as of Sunday, Sept. 13.
The pier master will be leaving the municipal fishing pier Friday, Oct. 2, but members can still fish anytime. In addition, there may be fishing available during striper season with a special permit, if the City Commission passes the resolution Thursday, Sept. 17, according to Deputy Municipal Clerk Janice Callaghan.
If the measure passes, the permits would be good through December, during striper season only, and would be available at the chief financial officer’s office at City Hall.
